As Director of Training, Sgt. Goutierrez plays a vital role in ensuring the department remains prepared and compliant. He manages department-wide training standards while mentoring and preparing the next generation of law enforcement officers. He strives to instill in his students the importance of evolving with the times and never remaining static. He encourages them to never pass up an opportunity to learn something new and to view mistakes as opportunities for growth and improvement. In the classroom, he brings engagement, humor, and an open atmosphere that encourages participation and confidence among his students. His unique teaching style not only builds knowledge and skill but also leaves a lasting impression on all who leave his classroom.
Sgt. Goutierrez says law enforcement is not just a static job, it is constantly evolving. You never know what each day will bring, and some days move much faster than others. That unpredictability is part of what keeps the profession meaningful and challenging. Beyond his professionalism and expertise, he is known throughout the department for his friendly, welcoming spirit and great sense of humor. He is well loved and respected by all at the department, always ready with an open ear and a willingness to help.
For Sgt. Goutierrez, the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office is more than an organization, it’s a family.
Outside of work, he is a proud father to two daughters, ages 24 and 18. He has shared the last eight years with his girlfriend and enjoys a full home with two dogs and two cats. In his free time, he enjoys cooking, spending time with family and friends, road trips to nowhere, camping, hiking, working out, and anything outdoors.
From his Supervisor:
“Hagan, with very little outside help, manages to keep all 170+ employees within POST and department standards every year. It is a monumental task for one person, but he completes it in stride. In addition to ensuring the department’s training remains in compliance, he also runs several POST training academies each year while maintaining his own instructor re-certifications. Hagan is well respected within both the law enforcement community and this department for his experience, dedication, professionalism, and his always-open ear, ready to help anyone.”
The Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office is grateful for Sgt. Hagan Goutierrez’s decades of dedication, leadership, and commitment to excellence in training and service
