Elizabeth, a 2019 Unity graduate, earned her B.S. in Marine Biology. Driven by her lifelong love and passion for the ocean. She was drawn to Unity for its close-knit student body, accessible professors, and immersive hands-on learning opportunities. Elizabeth’s student experience took her around the world, studying marine ecosystems in Curaçao and Rio de Janeiro to testing coral growth in a lab. Unity isn’t just about hands-on learning; it’s also about creating a research mindset to provide our students with the analytical confidence to solve complex problems.

While some career paths aren’t always linear, Unity’s style of research-based learning can open up doors to unexpected opportunities. Elizabeth’s journey took her in a slightly different direction. Elizabeth was hired for quality control at a Maine-based laboratory where she helped manage the testing kits during the COVID-19 pandemic. Today, Elizabeth is the Quality Manager at KICTeam in Auburn, Maine. She oversees the quality assurance in technology-safe cleaning products for payment, print media, image processing, and self-service technology equipment.

Elizabeth took her experience from Unity and applied it directly to her job at KICTeam. Zooming out and looking at the whole picture, she relates customers' experiences and how their needs are evolving. The same way an ecosystem would change and morph in the ocean due to rising temperatures and how that changes their mating season, food resources, and living conditions. This skill gives her the ability to question how she can make production more efficient or continue to ensure the quality of a product still meets the customers' expectations.

“Life can take you in so many different directions, and that's okay, if it doesn’t work out and you just don’t give up. I still love marine biology; I still love the ocean. That’s never going to go away, even though my career has taken me in a totally different direction.”
