To commemorate America’s 250th anniversary, Alice James Books presents a special evening of poetry that highlights often-overlooked voices from the founding era.

Poets Andrés Cerpa, Shara McCallum, and Mihaela Moscaliuc will read historical texts from lesser-known figures of the American Revolution and early republic.

Following the readings, audience members are invited to create their own erasure poems using excerpts from the Declaration of Independence and George Washington’s Farewell Address.

We’re thrilled to share that Cecily Parks’s THE SEEDS has been awarded the 2026 UNT Rilke Prize for Poetry!

From the Judges’ Citation: “...questions about endurance and survival enliven THE SEEDS, born of a mother’s desire to confront and understand the damage scarring the world even as she attends to its abundance.”

We also extend our deepest congratulations to this year’s finalists: Natalie Scenters-Zapico’s My Perfect Cognate (Copper Canyon Press), Paula Bohince’s A Violence (Princeton University Press), and Cynthia Cruz’s Sweet Repetition (University of Chicago Press).

💚 NEW RELEASE 💚

We’re thrilled to share Cole Swensen's VEER, the inaugural collection in Alice James Books’ , which honors the work of mid-career women poets who are reshaping the landscape of contemporary poetry.

A leading voice in ecopoetics, Swenson’s twentieth collection is rife with birds, blossoms, and the desire to engage with nature without appropriating it. Through precise forms and searing questions, Swenson recommits to the astonishment, beauty, and intensity of the natural world, despite all the forces determined to dismantle it.

"Swensen's insightfully idiosyncratic prose lyrics connect readers to their surroundings in new and surprising ways, reintroducing things and investing them with a prescient awareness and intelligence."
—Library Journal Starred Review
