Public trust starts with telling the truth about the law.

Both candidates for Clark County sheriff say this race is about rebuilding trust. Then read what they told WLKY about holding ICE detainees in our jail.

That’s not the whole story. SEA 76 requires jails to honor ICE detainers for people already booked on local charges. It does NOT require our jail to hold ICE detainees for pay. That is a voluntary agreement, and either side can end it with 30 days' notice.

So it's about money, not the law. Yet the County Council says the county is "healthy, solvent" and isn't counting on ICE money.

Not the law. Not the budget. Then why?

Read the article carefully. Ask questions. Hold every candidate to being accurate. Trust isn't rebuilt by blurring lines.

In the meantime, Clark County elected officials continue to be complicit.

Worth a read from the News and Tribune editorial board 👇

Starting in January, many Hoosiers on Medicaid will need to show 80 hours a month of work, volunteering, or school to keep their coverage. State officials estimate about 58,000 people could lose it next year.

The editors make a point we agree with: people who lose coverage still get sick, and those costs land on all of us. They're calling on state leaders to plan now for the gaps.

If you or someone you love is on Medicaid, please don't wait. Check your status now and find out whether you qualify for an exemption. If you're looking for work or training, Indiana's workforce offices offer free and low-cost programs.
