What is conservation tillage and how do we grow food while prioritizing the health and structure of our soil?

Last year we hosted a workshop on this topic with Anthony Villa of Villa Acres () in Sparta, TN.

Special thank you to Southern SARE () for supporting this workshop!

The Farmer Relief Fund is a rolling fund that supports growers after natural disasters devastate their farms and businesses, helping farmers and their families return to the work they love.

We have big dreams for our “little fund that could.” Since launching the fund in 2023, we have distributed more than $27,000 to 37 farmers across Tennessee—an impact made possible through the sustained support of Farmers Friend, LLC (), and generous contributors like Farm Aid ().

What changed everything for the Farmer Relief Fund was the monthly contribution pledged by Farmers Friend a few of years ago. Their consistent support allows us to confidently award worthy applications, knowing the fund will be replenished each month. Because of their commitment, we’re able to act strategically instead of reactively.

Thank you, Farmers Friend and Farm Aid, for helping Tennessee farmers recover, rebuild, and continue feeding their communities.

A few years ago, TN Local Food’s Farmer Relief Fund was born out of a natural disaster that impacted farmers across the region.

Earlier this year, Winter Storm Fern brought a historic level of destruction across Tennessee. We quickly received nine applications from farmers sharing devastating stories and seeking support at a critical moment as the busy spring season approached.

That’s when Farm Aid ()—the nonprofit organization founded by Willie Nelson and John Mellencamp—stepped in with a generous $5,000 contribution to the Farmer Relief Fund. These funds directly supported farmers impacted by Winter Storm Fern.

Thanks to Farm Aid’s partnership, we were able to award every eligible application following the storm.

Since launching the fund in 2023, we have distributed more than $27,000 to 37 farmers across Tennessee—an impact made possible through the sustained support of Farmers Friend, LLC (), and generous contributors like Farm Aid.

Thank you, Farm Aid and Farmers Friend, for helping Tennessee farmers recover, rebuild, and continue feeding their communities.
