Our Ancient Order of Hibernians Fr.

Ryan Division 1, continues the Irish legacy by fostering community and charity by promoting friendship, unity, and Christian charity.

Our next meeting is scheduled for Thursday evening on October 8th in the Parish Conference Center starting at 6:45pm.

If you are already a member, whether you just joined or have been with the Division since day one, we hope to see you there.

Today, September 24 2026, the Venerable Fulton J. Sheen will be beatified in a Mass in St. Louis, MO.

Fulton was born on May 8 1895 in El Paso, Illinois to Newton and Delia (Fulton) Sheen. His parents were the children of Irish immigrants: the Fultons from County Roscommon and the Sheens from Dublin.

Sheen was ordained a priest in 1919. Beginning in 1930, Sheen was a public figure - using the media of his time to share the good news of Christ and His Church. This started as a radio show and later the well known television programs broadcast to a National audience.

Of particular interest to our organization, from 1937 to 1941 - then Monsignor - Fulton J. Sheen served as the National Chaplain for the Ancient Order of Hibernians. His tenure was a pivotal between AOH National Presidents John E. Fenton and Joseph E. Kerrigan.

Fulton J. Sheen’s life and ministry are a bright line of American History that highlights the impact of the Irish, the Catholic, and the Immigrant community in this great nation.

Our Division had the pleasure of meeting with some of the Sons of Erin Division in Nashville to welcome the AOH National President Sean Pender. The Lost Paddy was a great setting for some craic agus ceol.

My wife surprised me for my birthday with this AOH Hiberian Blend tea. A premium Irish Breakfast tea benefiting the Ancient Order of Hibernians. The Ancient Order of Hibernians has helped its fellow Irish in America for many years. They commissioned this tea to raise money for this worthy cause. The AOH will receive a portion of the sales of this tea to help further its charitable and scholarship programs. The tea most commonly drunk in Ireland comes from Kenya, so we developed a strong tea from two Kenyan estates. It can handle the milk and sugar that most Irish people like to add. The Fr Abram J Ryan Division 1 of the Ancient Order of Hibernians invites you to join us on September 17th for a Halfway to St Patrick’s Day Celebration. We are meeting at the patio of Rippy’s Table and Tavern (8058 SR-100
Nashville, TN 37221) beginning at 6:00 pm.

This is the perfect opportunity to learn more about joining the local division of the oldest Irish Catholic Fraternity in the United States. We hope to see you there wearing your green.

St Aidan of Lindisfarne

Born in Ireland circa 590, Aidan later lived as a monk in the monastery founded by St Columba at Iona. In the 630s, King Oswald of Northumbria requested Aidan come to northern England to bring the Gospel. Aidan served the region through teaching, the Sacraments, and establishing churches. His life is remembered in the writings of the Venerable Bede. Aidan was the founder and first bishop of the Lindisfarne monastery that would one day be home to St Cuthbert. Aidan died on 31 August 651.

Mark your calendars for the September meeting of AOH Fr. Abram J. Ryan - Division 1 at St. Matthew Catholic Church.

Our members - and prospective members - will meet at 7pm in the Parish Conference Center.

Afterwards, we will make our way over to Rippy’s for our social hour. All are welcome to join us there for some food, beverages, and craic - whether you are a member or not. It’s the best way to learn more about the Division if you are still deciding on whether to submit your application.

On August 21, 1879, in the village of Knock in County Mayo, Ireland, the villagers were witness to an extraordinary event at the local church. Described as a heavenly vision along the wall of the parish church surrounded by a white light, witnesses saw the Blessed Virgin Mary in prayer. Dressed in white, she wore a golden crown adorned with a golden rose. Along with Our Lady, her blessed spouse, Joseph, appeared with her to her right. On her left, John the Evangelist vested as a bishop with a mitre, held aloft an open book as he silently appeared to be preaching. Behind these three, stood an altar. Atop the altar stood a Lamb before a Cross. For two hours in the rain the witnesses stood in the presence of this apparition. Notably, Our Lady remained silent, in prayer, throughout the Apparition.

Knock remains a Pilgrimage sight - visited by both Pope John Paul II and Pope Francis. Our Lady of Knock is recognized as the Patroness of Ireland.
