Perennial Plant Society of Middle Tennessee A plant society dedicated to the cultivation and education of perennial plants in Middle Tennessee.

We are a society of gardeners dedicated to growing perennials who come from all across Middle Tennessee to attend the great and informative programs offered the third Tuesday of each month (except for December).

The Perennial Plant Society invites you to join us on August 18 at 6:30 pm for a talk by Soraya Cates Parr about Native Orchids.

Soraya Cates Parr is an experienced and enthusiastic presenter. She is a professional plant and soil scientist (TTU 1981) who has shared her writing, speaking, and photography with magazines, radio shows, and local news and PBS television programs.

She spent many years as the orchid and tropical horticulturist at Cheekwood Botanical Gardens. She also worked in the greenhouses of a phalaenopsis orchid hybridizer.

She was mentored by Mrs. E. F. Siegerist (1925-2014), a Harvard Research Fellow and botanist for the Oaks Ames Orchid Herbarium.

Soraya has won awards for her writing and has served as an orchid clerk for American Orchid Society judges at Midwest conferences.

Her recent book, published by Vanderbilt University Press, was reviewed in The Smithsonian’s North American Orchid Conservation Center Newsletter, the Journal of the American Orchid Society, and Chapter 16 (Tennessee Humanities).

Soraya will have her book for sale at the meeting for $20, cash only.
