We’re not just a fire department. We’re members of the community. Recently our members were able to be a part of “Story Time with a Firefighter” where we read stories and answered questions with some of our neighbors!

As our in house academy comes to a close our new probationary firefighters are given a few classes on more than just firefighting.

Recently the newest members were given a “Probie 101” course. This course gives insight from members who recently completed their probation successfully. Things they’ll learn include how to expect their day to day activities to go, as well as some studying tips.

Our Elected Board Members also gave insight to the importance of our labor union, and what it means to be a part of Local 4302. The candidates learned about our personal history, as well as others close to home.

The candidates learned about the Associated Fire Fighters of Illinois and International Association of Fire Fighters and how wide spread the union spans.

Our photo shows them watching Fire Department Inc, where North Riverside Firefighters Union-Local 2714's labor union finds itself under a different kind of fire when the Village Mayor announces he's privatizing their department to save money. What results is a five year long legal battle the results in national change.

This week, members of our union had the opportunity to attend the Associated Fire Fighters of Illinois legislative conference!

These conferences are about far more than politics — they’re about making sure the voices of first responders and the communities we serve are heard where important decisions are made. By meeting with legislators and industry leaders, our members were able to discuss issues that directly impact emergency response, firefighter safety, staffing, training, equipment funding, mental health resources, pensions, and the overall quality of service we provide to the public.

Strong relationships with lawmakers help ensure departments have the tools, protections, and support necessary to respond effectively when our community needs us most. Advocacy today helps build a safer tomorrow — not only for firefighters, but for every resident, business owner, and family we serve.

We’re proud of the members who represented our local with professionalism and passion, and we remain committed to standing up for both our firefighters and the community that depends on us.

Some times the emergency finds you! *no matter how small and fluffy*

A family of baby bunnies found their way into one of our station’s window wells! Thankfully one of our newest firefighters used to be a vet tech and was more than willing to assist these babies to get back to momma bunny as safely as possible!

Looking for your next move in the fire service? Take a look at what we got to offer!

We’re a large suburban department that offers the best of both worlds—big-department opportunities with a tight-knit crew culture. If you’re coming in with experience (5+ years), we recognize it with a pay bump to Step 6 after probation.

From day one, you’ll have access to a wide range of specialty teams and opportunities to grow your skill set. More importantly, you’ll be surrounded by people who take pride in the job and have great team cohesion.

If you’re ready to be part of something bigger, check out our recruitment video and see what sets us apart.

Our newest recruits have been getting after it at the academy—focusing on functional fitness that translates directly to the job. From strength and endurance training to job-specific movements, they’re building the foundation needed for the demands of the fireground.

They’ve also been training while wearing their SCBA masks to get more comfortable operating under realistic conditions. It’s not easy, but it’s essential. The more familiar they are with their gear now, the more confident and effective they’ll be when it matters most.

Strong bodies. Sharp minds. Ready to serve. 🔥

Engine 2 and Truck 10 putting in the work on a joint company exercise. Together they worked on water supply/pumping operations and flowing water through our aerial master streams.

This type of multi company training is critical for our crews to be better prepared for larger incidents, and helps us create a seamless workflow when the situation is critical.

We stand with our brothers and sisters of Dolton’s local 3766 in their efforts to improve their department. Their concerns not only affect them but the lives of their fellow community members.

Members of the Dolton Fire Department have raised concerns about safety issues and failures under the leadership of interim fire chief Quention Curtis, which the village has disputed.

We are proud to announce that we at Local 4302 have successfully gotten rid of all “bunk rooms” or sleeping spaces at all of our stations! After a hard fought battle we are now able to use this vital space for important activities such as pickleball!

Our members are happy finding time to nap in less important areas, such as tool compartments on our new squad. Thanks to everyone for their support in this process!

Alright, alright, this might be a terrible April fools joke, but in all seriousness, we are more than excited for our new squad hitting the streets this month! Our squads deliver critical equipment to special rescues and extrications that a typical engine may not carry.

Thanks to our member for demonstrating the new storage space prior to the copious amount of equipment being loaded onto the new rig!
