Local 4302’s Project Fire Buddies chapter has made a new pal! This is Aiden! We were more than happy to meet him, and help him have a great day!

For those that are unfamiliar, the purpose of project fire buddies is to support critically ill children and their families, providing joy, companionship, and unforgettable experiences.

Although we work hard to help those in need on shift, our members take special pride in volunteering their time in this way off shift.

Congrats to our associated charity Naperville Professional Firefighters for a Cause on reaching such a monumental milestone! All members involved put in incredible amounts of time and effort into making it a great organization!

Over $1,000,000 donated.

What started as a simple mission to give back has grown into something truly extraordinary. Together with our sponsors, volunteers, supporters, and event participants we've been able to donate more than one million dollars to charities and families in need.

This milestone isn't just about a number it's about the lives impacted, the organizations strengthened, and the incredible community that continues to stand beside us.

The Naperville Fire Cadets and their advisors had a great time at the Explorer Cadet Fire School at IFSI. This 4 day training event brought together aspiring firefighters from across the country to participate in skill building exercises, practical evolutions, and multiple immersive training scenarios that challenge all skill levels.

A photo from a recent fire at a local hotel, resulting in us utilizing multiple agencies. Often times you can hear this being referred to a “Box alarm”, or “second alarm fire”

Which lead us into a great ASK A FIREFIGHTER!

“What is a box alarm?”

This question gets asked relatively often from people newer to the fire service, or are familiar with some of the terminology.

A box alarm is a standardized way for a fire department or dispatch center to send a predetermined number and type of emergency resources to an incident. Rather than dispatching units one by one, a “box” specifies exactly what gets sent based on the nature and location of the call.

The term comes from the days of fire alarm boxes mounted on street corners. Each alarm box had a unique number (“Box 123,” for example). When someone pulled the box, dispatch knew the exact location and which companies were assigned to respond to that box.

Today, most departments no longer use street alarm boxes, but the terminology remains

Members from Local 4302 are honored to attend the 45th Biennial Convention hosted by Springfield Fire Fighters Local 37!

These conventions help build unity throughout the state, and strengthen ties between our local and others. We’re thankful to share insights with our brothers and sisters to know how to better strengthen our department, and in turn help better protect the communities we serve!

As members come and go, their crews like to make their last day memorable. Often referred to as 'Walk Outs', or the last time a member leaves the building as a full-time member of the fire department, these days are often a mix of emotions.

Many are able to look back on their years of service with pride, but are simultaneously faced with a new chapter in their lives. To lighten this toll, some crews elect to reflect on funny stories or good times had over a member's career.

In the case of one of our recent retirees, his crew decided to bring out the wacky inflatable arm man and make some custom T-shirts!

Brother Dudley was a great asset to the department and will be missed.
