The Nantucket Land Bank is proud to announce that we are one of seven organizations to receive a grant from Massachusetts Division of Fisheries and Wildlife.
With this grant, our field crew can continue their efforts to restore pine barrens at Gardner Farm which includes thinning the pitch pine forest. Thinning dense areas of forest reduces competition among trees, creates healthier stands that can better ward off Southern Pine Beetle attacks, and reduces the risk of wildfire.
“By investing in habitat restoration on Nantucket, Martha’s Vineyard, and Cuttyhunk, the Commonwealth is supporting practical climate adaptation and work that protects biodiversity and sustains these landscapes for the future.” -State Senator Julian Cyr
We thank the Healy-Driscoll Administration and the Department of Fish and Game’s MassWildlife for awarding us this grant and are excited to get started on the work!
