Recognizing one of our own!

This week, we received a phone call from a community member who wanted to make sure we knew about the care her family has received from Paramedic William “Will” Arnett.

On several occasions, Will has cared for her loved ones, and every single time, he has shown extraordinary compassion. His calm, reassuring presence made a hard moment easier for the whole family. She told us that if anyone at MCEMS deserves an award for service, it’s Will.

We couldn’t agree more.

Will, thank you for the skill, patience, and heart you bring to every call. You treat people the way we hope every patient is treated, and you make our entire team and our community proud.

Thank you for all you do.

INDIGENOUS PEOPLES’ DAY

Today, MCEMS recognizes Indigenous Peoples’ Day and the rich cultures, traditions, history, and contributions of Indigenous peoples.

As members of the Muskogee community, we are especially proud to live and serve in a region with such a deep Indigenous heritage.

Today is an opportunity to learn, listen, appreciate, and recognize the people and cultures that have helped shape our community and our country.

At MCEMS, we’re honored to serve everyone in our community, and we are grateful for the many people who make our community stronger.

HAPPY EMERGENCY NURSES WEEK!

This week, MCEMS wants to recognize the incredible Emergency Room Nurses who work alongside us every day.

From the moment we bring a patient through the doors, ER nurses jump into action. They assess, prioritize, coordinate care, comfort families, and keep things moving—often in some of the most challenging and unpredictable moments.

We know firsthand that emergency care is a team effort, and we are grateful for the nurses who meet us at the door and continue the care we started in the field.

To all the ER nurses who work long shifts, handle the chaos, care for patients, and somehow keep going:

Thank you. We see you. We appreciate you. And we are proud to call you our partners in patient care.

From everyone at MCEMS, Happy Emergency Nurses Week!

WORLD MENTAL HEALTH DAY

Today, MCEMS recognizes World Mental Health Day and the importance of taking care of our minds just as we take care of our bodies.

In EMS, we see people on some of the hardest days of their lives. But we also know that the people wearing the uniform need support too. The calls, the long shifts, and the things we experience can take a toll.

Taking a moment to check on a coworker, a friend, a family member, or even yourself can make a difference.

It’s okay to not be okay. It’s okay to ask for help. And it’s okay to talk.

Today, let's make an effort to check in on the people around us and remind them that they don't have to carry everything alone.

Take care of yourself. Check on your people. Start the conversation.

MCEMS Spotlight: Meet Lydia!

This week, we’re shining the spotlight on Lydia, who has been part of the MCEMS family for 2 years and has been a Lead Medic for the past year!

But there’s more to Lydia than just being a great medic. She is also a member of the U.S. National Guard, serving her community in more ways than one. 🇺🇸

We asked Lydia, “What’s something about EMS that you wish more people understood?”

Her answer really says a lot about how she approaches this career:

“I wish more people knew what we as medics can do and handle in the back of that ambulance. We are very well trained in a wide scope of emergency care. We are not just a ride to the hospital. We treat, we care, and we transport to the most appropriate hospital.”
And she’s absolutely right! Our medics do so much more than simply provide a ride. They assess, treat, make critical decisions, provide compassionate care, and work to get patients where they need to be.

When Lydia isn't wearing her medic uniform or serving in the National Guard, she loves spending time with her little man and enjoying the outdoors. She also does CrossFit and, when she's ready to slow things down, enjoys relaxing at home and crocheting.

We asked Lydia what she would be doing if she wasn't working in EMS.

Her response?

“Honestly, I have no idea. EMS, especially MCEMS, is the career fit I’ve been looking for for a while.”

We think that says a lot about how much MCEMS has become home for Lydia.

Of course, we had to ask a few fun questions too!

Coffee or energy drink? Lydia is definitely a sweet/savory coffee kind of girl!

Favorite part of a long day? After a long shift and back-to-back calls, Lydia says there's nothing better than a nice meal.

We couldn't agree more!

Then we asked Lydia something a little more meaningful:

“What are you most proud of from your time at MCEMS?”

Lydia shared that she has received a lot of encouragement at MCEMS to continue pushing forward in her career.

And when we asked what keeps bringing her back to MCEMS, her answer was simple and heartfelt:

“MCEMS is a good fit for me—the family and community. I don't see myself anywhere else.”

That right there is what it's all about.

Lydia, thank you for being part of the MCEMS family. Thank you for the care you provide to our patients, the dedication you bring to every shift, and the commitment you show to your community both through MCEMS and the U.S. National Guard.

We're glad you're here, Lydia, and we're proud to call you one of our own!

Keep being you, Lydia!
