Senior Resources of West Michigan Senior Resources has served West Michigan for over 50 years. As an Area Agency on Aging, we serve as a hub for information on options for long term care.

We work to help people age in place with dignity and independence. Senior Resources, an area agency on aging, assesses community needs, develops and implements a regional plan for service delivery, serves as a focal point for information, provides care coordination, arranges for in-home care services, counsels on Medicare/Medicaid benefits and serves as an advocacy agency for older adults and the disabled. Meet Char and Ray

"We've been married for 31 years, and I feel so fortunate. Ray has always been such a sweet and loving husband to me."

When Char began noticing changes in her husband, Ray, she didn't know what the road ahead would look like. After his Alzheimer's diagnosis, she realized she couldn't do it alone.

Three years ago, Char joined a Senior Resources caregiver support group. She found more than information and resources. She found understanding, friendship, and people who truly knew what she was going through.

"This group has truly been a lifeline for me. We support each other, we listen, and we show up for one another. Just knowing I’m not alone gives me strength."

If you're caring for a loved one, support is here for you, too. During National Family Caregivers Month, we honor the family caregivers whose compassion, dedication, and love make all the difference every day.

A retired nurse lost $400,000 after falling victim to a sophisticated scam that began with what appeared to be a legitimate Amazon call. The story is a powerful reminder that scams can happen to anyone.

Scammers often create a sense of urgency, hoping you'll act before you have time to think.

That's why experts encourage everyone to remember one simple word:

🛑 PAUSE

Before sharing personal information. Before sending money. Before purchasing gift cards. Before clicking a link.

Taking a moment to verify a request could protect you or a loved one from financial exploitation.

We're grateful for our community partner, SafeSeniors of West Michigan, which works throughout Muskegon, Oceana, and Ottawa counties to help prevent elder abuse, neglect, and financial exploitation while seeking justice for victims.

Read the article below and share it with someone you care about.

Americans 60 and older lost more than $7.7 billion to scams last year, and AI is making the cons harder to spot. I spoke to cybersecurity experts to find out how the scammers think.

Medicaid through the Healthy Michigan Plan? Changes are coming in 2027.

Some adults ages 19-64 may need to meet new work requirements to keep their coverage. The good news is that many people may already qualify through work, school, volunteering, or other approved activities, and some may be exempt.

Now is a good time to make sure your contact information is current and learn how these changes could affect you.

November is National Family Caregivers Month, a time to recognize the family members, friends, and neighbors who provide care every day.
