Last month, the Muncy School District Foundation invited all district teachers to submit proposals for the 2026–2027 Muncy Foundation Mini Grant Program. The program was created to support innovative ideas and meaningful learning experiences across district schools.

Grants could support classroom materials and resources, technology integration, student projects and enrichment, field trips and guest speakers, clubs, extracurricular activities, and athletics. The program had a total budget of $3,000 to help bring innovative ideas to life.

The Muncy School District Foundation received three grant proposals:

1) Building Math in Motion

Funding would enhance student achievement and engagement in seventh- and eighth-grade Math Lab through biweekly, hands-on STEM projects, including Hurricane House simulations, weight-bearing towers, balloon cars, and paper rockets aligned with PA STEELS and mathematics standards. By applying mathematical principles directly, students will improve PSSA performance, strengthen problem-solving skills, and connect classroom mathematics to real-world engineering challenges. (Joanna Kreisher - Math and FACS Teacher)

2) Educational Field Trip for Students in Grades 7–12

The grant is to support an educational field trip for students in grades 7–12 to attend the “Making the Museum” guided tour and studio workshop at The Westmoreland Museum of American Art. Scheduled for February 10, 2027, the program extends learning beyond the classroom through interactive curation and creative art-making led by professional museum educators. (Katelyn Herron - Instructor of Art)

3) Eighth-Grade Science Planetarium Field Trip

This trip would provide eighth-grade students with an immersive astronomy experience at the Lycoming College Planetarium, deepening their understanding of complex solar system dynamics and inspiring greater interest in STEM fields. (Garrett Lee - General Science Teacher)

The Muncy School District Foundation voted to fully or partially fund all three projects using the initiative’s entire $3,000 budget.

Teachers in attendance will receive their grant awards during halftime of this week’s Homecoming football game against Canton on Friday, October 9, 2026. The Muncy School District Foundation was established to provide, promote, and finance programs, activities, and projects that benefit our students.
