đź’ś GRATEFUL FOR OUR COMMUNITY PARTNERS đź’ś

Light the Way for Hope reminds us that addressing overdose and substance use takes an entire community willing to show up, work together, and stand beside families.

We are incredibly grateful to the Berkeley County Coroner's Office for continuing to be such an important partner in this work.

A special thank you to Berkeley County Coroner Berkeley County Coroner Darnell D. Hartwell for joining us as one of our speakers Monday night and for his continued commitment to raising awareness and helping prevent the loss of more lives in our community.

We also want to recognize Allison Bilton , Rochelle, Kelly and the entire Coroner’s Office team for everything they do behind the scenes and for the compassion they show families during some of the most difficult moments imaginable.

Events like Light the Way for Hope are possible because community partners don’t just talk about making a difference—they show up and walk beside us.

Thank you, Darnell, Allison, and the entire Berkeley County Coroner’s Office team, for standing with WakeUp Carolina, honoring the lives we have lost, supporting the families left behind, and helping us continue spreading awareness, healing, and hope. 💜

đź’ś COMMUNITY PARTNERS MAKE THE DIFFERENCE đź’ś

Light the Way for Hope is about more than one evening. It’s about building a community where people impacted by substance use know that help, hope, and support are never far away.

We are incredibly grateful for the Kennedy Center Prevention and the work their team continues to do throughout Berkeley County. From prevention and treatment resources to Narcan education and distribution, they are a valued partner who continues to show up for our community.

A special thank you to Wehme Appleby Hutto for joining us as one of our speakers at Monday night’s Light the Way for Hope in Moncks Corner and sharing her voice with the families and community members gathered with us.

This work takes all of us. When organizations stop working in silos and start walking beside one another, our entire community becomes stronger.

Thank you, Kennedy Center, for continuing to walk beside WakeUp Carolina and the families we serve. đź’ś

đź’ś A COMMUNITY THAT SHOWS UP đź’ś

Light the Way for Hope simply would not be possible without the incredible support of our community partners and local leaders who continue to stand beside WakeUp Carolina and the families we serve.

A huge thank you to the Town of Moncks Corner, Berkeley County Government, Moncks Corner Police Department, and Moncks Corner Fire Department for helping make Monday night such a meaningful evening of remembrance, awareness, healing, and hope.

We are especially grateful to Mayor Hamilton, Berkeley County Supervisor Johnny Cribb, Councilmen Marshall West, David Dennis, Chadwick Sweatman,Leroy Di**le, Latorie S. Lloyd, Lechelle Brown, Sandra Osborne, Town of Moncks Corners Susan Gilmour and Francis Johnson, Fire Chief James Jackson,, Goose Creek Councilman Cory D. McClary and TJ Stone from The Grove for lending their voices and their time, and their hearts to this important night.

What makes our community special isn't just the organizations represented—it's the people behind them who continue to show up, collaborate, and walk beside families through some of their hardest moments.

Monday night showed exactly what can happen when a community comes together with one purpose: to remember those we've lost, support those who are hurting, and make sure those still struggling know they are not alone. đź’ś

🇺🇸 SERVING THOSE WHO SERVED | STWS

Tonight we had a good, open conversation about anger management and something many veterans can relate to.

During our time in service, anger and aggression could be tools. We learned how to channel them, stay mission-focused, react quickly, and do what needed to be done.

But nobody really teaches you how to turn that switch back off when the uniform comes off.

Tonight we talked about recognizing our early warning signs, developing healthier coping skills, and learning to pause before we react. Sometimes that pause is enough to change what happens next.

And just as important—we talked about connection. Having people around you who understand, who you can call, and who will tell you the truth when you need to hear it.

That’s what STWS is about. Veterans helping veterans learn how to carry life a little differently.

Connection. Authenticity. Purpose. Service. 🇺🇸

đź’ś LIGHT THE WAY FOR HOPE | THE SUPPORT CONTINUES

Monday night in Moncks Corner, hundreds of luminaries surrounded Unity Park. Each one carried a name. Each name carried a story. And behind every story is a family that continues learning how to live with that loss.

That is something we never want to lose sight of.

The lights may have gone out Monday night, but the support does not end when the event is over.

At WakeUp Carolina, we walk beside families on both sides of this journey—those grieving someone they have lost and those loving someone who is still struggling with substance use.

💜 Healing Hearts Gathering — 2nd & 4th Thursdays at 6 PM
A compassionate space for anyone who has lost a loved one to the impacts of substance use.

💜 Mothers Gathering — Tuesdays at 6 PM
For moms navigating the fear, frustration, hope, and uncertainty of loving a child struggling with substance use.

💜 Dad2Dad — Tuesdays at 6 PM
A place for fathers to connect with other dads who understand that same journey.

You do not have to wait until next year's Light the Way for Hope to find connection and support. You are not alone.

And neither are we.

We are incredibly grateful for the community partners who continue to walk beside WakeUp Carolina and the families we serve: Town of Moncks Corner, Berkeley County Government, Ernest E. Kennedy Center, Berkeley County Coroner's Office, and the Town of Moncks Corner Police and Fire Departments.

This is what community looks like—remembering together, healing together, and continuing to show up for one another long after the luminaries are gone. 💜

đź’ś LIGHT THE WAY FOR HOPE | MONCKS CORNER đź’ś

As we close out Monday night’s 3rd Annual Light the Way for Hope, our hearts are full of gratitude.

What happened at Unity Park was so much more than an event. It was our community coming together to remember, support, heal, and give hope.

As the sun went down and the luminaries began to glow, every name reminded us why we were there. Behind every bag was a life. A story. A family. Someone deeply loved and deeply missed.

To our community partners, local leaders, speakers, volunteers, staff, and everyone who gave their time and heart to make this night possible — thank you. And to every person who attended, shared a story, shed a tear, hugged someone, or simply stood beside another person in support — thank you for sharing this special night with us.

Most importantly, to the families who allowed us to honor and remember your loved ones: thank you for trusting us with their names and their stories. We will continue to say their names, remember their lives, and work toward a community where fewer families have to experience this loss.

This is what community looks like. We show up for one another. We remember together. We heal together. And together, we continue to Light the Way for Hope. đź’ś

Hope. Heal. Remember.
