Delaware County Intermediate Unit The Delaware County Intermediate Unit (DCIU) is a regional education services agency.

It is our mission to provide leadership for the development of innovative and cost-effective programs to meet the needs of our county. DCIU serves more than 80,000 school-aged students and more than 6,000 educators on a regional basis. Direct instruction is provided to more than 15,000 students enrolled in DCIU’s Special Programs, Career and Technical Education and specialized programs. The Delawa

re County Intermediate Unit is one of Pennsylvania’s 29 regional educational agencies. Established in 1970 by the State Legislature, IUs were charged with providing services in seven areas. DCIU grew to meet Delaware County’s needs by providing services best offered on a regional basis such as special education, technical education, services to nonpublic schools and technology. Today, more than 50 years in the business of serving the needs of Delaware County, DCIU has grown to provide more than $185 million worth of services through the management of 60 programs.

Today marked the first day of school for children in DCIU’s Head Start Program, and our classrooms were filled with excitement, curiosity, and plenty of smiles.

Head Start helps young children build a strong foundation for success by supporting early learning, healthy development, and strong partnerships with families.

A warm welcome to the students in DCIU’s Practical Nursing Program Cohort #70! 🩺

Yesterday, these future nurses began their journey in our brand-new, state-of-the-art facility at the Marple Education Center.

DCIU’s Practical Nursing Program prepares students to become Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) in just 12 months. Through hands-on training, expert instruction, and real-world learning experiences, students gain the knowledge and skills needed to provide quality patient care and build rewarding careers in healthcare.

We are excited to support this next generation of healthcare professionals as they take the first step toward making a difference in the lives of others.

🎒 Welcome Back, TCA Students!

It’s back-to-school week for students across DCIU programs, and this morning we had the opportunity to visit The County Alternative School (TCA) as students and staff began a new school year.

TCA serves students in grades 7–12, providing specialized educational programs and mental health supports for students who benefit from a smaller, more individualized learning environment. This year, TCA expanded to include 7th and 8th grade students, extending these supports to even more learners.

Through strong relationships, personalized instruction, counseling services, and opportunities to explore future career pathways, TCA helps students build the skills, confidence, and resilience they need for success in school and beyond.

We’re excited to welcome our students back and look forward to a year filled with growth, connection, and new opportunities.

DCIU’s nonpublic remedial teaching staff is gearing up for the 2026–27 school year! 🍅

Delaware County is home to 94 nonpublic schools serving nearly 14,000 students, and DCIU plays an important role in supporting many of these students through state and federal programs.

Our remedial teaching staff recently came together for a Back-to-School Professional Development Day focused on strengthening instructional practices, reviewing key procedures, and preparing to provide targeted reading and math interventions.

The team is excited to return, reconnect, and make a positive impact by helping students build skills, grow in confidence, and achieve success throughout the school year. We’re proud to support students, educators, and nonpublic school communities across Delaware County.

Calling All Educators! Start Your Tuesday with Ideas You Can Use the Very Same Day! 💡

DCIU’s Teaching & Learning team is hosting Tune-In Tuesday throughout the school year. Join us for a weekly, 30-minute virtual professional learning series designed for busy educators who want practical, high-impact strategies without spending hours in training.

Each month will focus on a different instructional theme, with every session highlighting one or two high-leverage teaching strategies that can be implemented immediately in the classroom. Topics may include literacy, mathematics, science, classroom culture, assessment, student engagement, and more. Every webinar provides ready-to-use tools, resources, and ideas to support effective teaching and strengthen student learning.

One annual membership provides access to the full year of live sessions, a growing resource bank of classroom-ready materials, and the complete session archive, making it easy to revisit a topic or catch up whenever your schedule allows.

Join us live before school from 7:00 a.m. – 7:30 a.m. and leave with a strategy you can use that day while building your instructional toolkit one Tuesday at a time!

Purpose, Passion, and a Powerful Start!🌟

DCIU’s Early Childhood Education Team came together this morning for a beginning-of-the-school-year kickoff meeting, preparing to welcome students back to classrooms next week.

More than 400 educators and support staff joined in person and virtually, united by a shared commitment to supporting young learners and helping every child begin the school year with a strong foundation.

As we kicked off a new year together, our message was simple:
One Team. One Department. One Mission. Early Childhood Matters!

The room was filled with excitement, passion, and purpose as staff connected, prepared, and focused on the important work ahead—creating supportive learning environments, partnering with families, and helping children grow, learn, and thrive.
