Special announcement! Growing Greener Communities partners — Lower Merion Conservancy, Pennsylvania Resources Council, Darby Creek Valley Association, and the Eastern Delaware County Stormwater Collaborative — are offering a four-week immersive rain garden course this spring.

Learn the ins and outs of building your own successful rain garden in this four-session virtual course running from mid-April to mid-May. The program is free for residents within the Schuylkill, Cobbs, and Mill Creek watersheds. If you’re unsure whether you’re eligible, feel free to reach out and we’d be happy to help.

Participants who complete the program will receive free native plants to help start their own rain garden, along with helpful resources, design support, and opportunities for hands-on learning.

Space is limited, so be sure to register soon!
Register by scanning the QR code below or visiting https://prc.app.neoncrm.com/np/clients/prc/event.jsp?event=2691&

We are excited to share this course with the community and see more plants get in the ground! 🌿 This project was financed in part by: a Growing Greener Grant provided by the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection and by the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation and its funding partners.

EDCSC in partnership with Darby Township is undertaking a large streambank restoration project in Conway Park. The project will reconnect the Hermesprota Creek to its floodplain, reduce ongoing erosion, allow for better recreational access to the stream, and increase habitat. Phase I will complete the earth moving creating a more gentle slope to the streambanks with Phase II coming in the spring where riparian plantings will ensure long term stabilization, filter overland runoff, and add habitat. Stay tuned for more update as the project progresses.

Our friends at the Darby Creek Valley Association and the Willistown Conservation Trust have been working hard to monitor the health of the Darby Creek. During winter months road salt can have a negative impact on our local creeks. Learn more about their work at: https://www.darbycreekcommunityscience.com/

What’s My Watershed?
Land and water are connected. We all live in a watershed (an area of land that will drain to a body of water). Smaller watersheds connect to larger watersheds. Portions of the EDCSC municipalities lie within numerous smaller watersheds that all form the larger Darby Creek Watershed which is a part of the even larger Delaware River Watershed. The water that flows through these watersheds connects us all together. To find your watershed address and how water that lands on your property and local community moves through the landscape visit, https://river-runner.samlearner.com/.
