It is past time for us to take climate seriously- climate may be one of the unspoken reasons that the youngest adults say they prefer socialism to the rapacious, nature-killing cancer of capitalism. To effectively fight climate change, we need to dismantle capitalism. It looks like we have quite a fight on our hands.

Help Protect Our Wildest Forests from Trump

Our undeveloped national forests are the heart of our public land. But now one of the most important -- and most underappreciated -- conservation policies is on the verge of being cut by Trump. If the Roadless Area Conservation Rule is repealed, 45 million acres of pristine national forests across the country would be opened up for the first time in over 20 years to road building and the logging, mining, and extractive industries that come with that.

The policy was created by the Forest Service because it was ecologically critical, fiscally responsible, and overwhelmingly popular. Now the administration is repealing it citing fire concerns and timber value - but neither of those justifications stands up to scrutiny.

Last year, over 600,000 people voiced their support for this rule, but the Trump administration is steamrolling ahead and ignoring the American public. WOW, we hear from many of our older members that their hiking days are done, so we are impressed with his accomplishment.

The Vermont Chapter has been adding more outings to our activities; however, we need more outing leaders to do that. Consider joining us, and we can have a hike in your community or someplace you love. It doesn't need to be 2,000 miles or over 2,000 feet in elevation gain.

For 110 years, the National Park Service has helped protect the places that inspire us, connect us, and tell the story of our nation.

From towering mountains and ancient forests to historic landmarks and neighborhood parks, these public lands are shared by all of us. They are places to explore, learn, reflect, and build lifelong connections with the outdoors. But they are increasingly under threat.

Since early 2025, the Trump administration has fired thousands of rangers, educators, scientists, and caretakers, cut or delayed funding, and advanced destructive projects across national parks and other public lands.

As we conclude , but continue to uplift the work done by the National Park Service, it's more important than ever to speak up to ensure our parks are protected, accessible, and welcoming for everyone, today and for generations to come.
