They closed the lid on your casket.

My head knew I would never touch you again in this lifetime but my heart could not understand.

It was not lost on me that March 25, 2016 was

Good Friday…

A day of mourning and sorrow over the loss of you.

A day of mourning and sorrow over the sacrificial crucifiction of Christ.

A day that reminds us of your choice of salvation.

A day that reminds us of our sin which made His sacrifice necessary.

Another day I woke with the reality of your death.

A day that another mother watched her son beaten and killed on a cross.

A day my world was cloaked in oppressive, complete darkness.

A day that the world went dark so there could be light.

A day I buried my hope for your earthy future.

A day that brought hope for the future and eternity.

An assurance that I will see you again.

Some day.

Please keep this family in your prayers.

Most of you who are part of our First Touch Family know, intimately, the suffering and shattering this family is walking through. You know the long, painful journey of grief in the waiting.

There are moments when there simply are no words, no answers, and no strength left to draw from.

Your prayers carry them before the throne of God in a season when just breathing can feel exhausting.

Please pray for strength for today, peace in the waiting, comfort in the unbearable moments, and the reminder that they are not walking this road alone.

The ache.

The ache of missing you, the one who made me a Mimi.

And somehow, that ache is relieved by the blessing of uninterrupted time together. Time to soak you in, to make memories, to love you a little bigger.

But then the clock runs out.

And the tears come.

Tears filled with both gratitude and grief.

Gratitude that the Lord blessed us with you. Gratitude for the provision that allows me to see you every couple of months and hold onto these precious moments together.

And grief because your dad should be here.

He should be here for the hugs, the laughter, the milestones, the ordinary moments. The ones that become so extraordinary when someone is missing.

I’m so grateful I get to be your Mimi.

But loving you will always carry the ache of missing him.

Two things can be true at the same time.

I can be deeply grateful for you and still deeply grieve the one who should be here. ❤️‍🩹

Honoring all of the children lost to fentanyl and all of the families living with the shattering reality of child loss.

“Koby got it from a friend.

Someone he knew. Someone he trusted.

We spend years telling our kids not to take things from strangers. But sometimes, it isn’t a stranger.

Just because something comes from a friend doesn’t mean it is safe.

You don’t know where they got it. You don’t know who they got it from. You don’t know what is really in it. And you don’t know the intentions of the person who originally supplied it.

And sometimes, the friend handing it to you may not know either.

That is the world our kids are living in now."

This is why we must talk about it. We must educate our children. We must have the hard conversations. And we must never forget the children whose lives have been forever changed and the families left to carry the unimaginable weight of their loss.
