Happy Birthday Week, Joy BoX! 🎂💛

We're celebrating our first year all week long, and today we're taking it back to where it all started. 🥹

Joy BoX began as an idea between two friends who saw a need right here in Monroe County. In this video, Heather and I share how Joy BoX got started, what we do, and why it matters so much to us.

In our first year, YOU helped us serve over 100 kids with clothing, essentials, and comfort items. That's over 100 children in foster care, kinship care, and families in need who got a reminder that they matter. 💛

Happy 1st birthday, Joy BoX! 🎂💛

One year. Countless smiles. One amazing community. Today marks our official 1-year anniversary!

We started with a simple mission: to make sure children in foster care, kinship care, and families in need have clothing, essentials, and comfort items, along with the reminder that they matter. We couldn't have done it without YOU.

💛 Thank you to Margie and Lake Erie Resellers for having us last night!

We loved sharing the heart behind Joy BoX Foster Closet with such an engaged group. So many kids in foster and kinship care in Monroe County arrive with little more than the clothes they're wearing, and it means the world to see local professionals ready to help change that.

Every shelf and bin means more clothing, essentials, and comfort items organized and ready for kids in foster care, kinship care, and families in our community who need them. We are so grateful for this gift of generosity and heart. 🙏

📦 Volunteers needed this Saturday! 📦

Our donations have been piling up (a good problem to have!) and we need some extra hands to help us sort and organize everything so we can get it to the kids and families who need it.

📍 Mall of Monroe

No experience needed, just a willingness to dig in, sort, and fold alongside us for a couple of hours. It's a great way to see firsthand how Joy BoX works and to be part of getting these items ready for foster and kinship families in our community.

This summer, the incredible women of Wyldewood Baptist Church spent their time sewing pillowcases, just for our JoyBoX kids. 🧵💛

Every single one is handmade with so much love, and paired with pillows they generously donated too. When a child comes to us, they often arrive with nothing familiar, nothing soft, nothing that feels like theirs. A pillow and a pillowcase made just for them says "you are seen, you are cared for, and you are home here, even if just for a while."

We are beyond grateful for the hands and hearts behind every stitch. Thank you, , for pouring your summer into these kids. This is what community looks like. 🤍

When there aren't enough foster homes, kids pay the price.

Most people don't realize what happens when a child needs a placement and there isn't a foster family ready. They either get placed in emergency care — a short-term stopgap that can be scary and confusing, especially for little ones who don't understand why they're suddenly somewhere new. Or, when nothing else is available, they end up staying in a hotel room with a rotating cast of social workers checking in on shifts — social workers who are already stretched thin and burning out trying to cover these gaps.

These are real kids. Not statistics. Kids who just need somewhere safe, steady, and kind to land.

That's why now is the time. Monroe County needs more foster families — people willing to open their homes and give a child stability during one of the hardest moments of their life.

You don't have to have all the answers. You just have to be willing to show up.

What is Foster Care? Foster Care identifies and places children in safe homes when they cannot remain with their families because of safety concerns. Foster families then provide these children with the consistency and support they need to grow. Our main goal is to return children back to their home...

Our requests have been coming in like CRAZY. With that we have been busy bees filling the requests such as this Joy BoX pictured below.

We have gotten a lot of messages asking for ways to help which we are SO SO thankful for. What we could really use help with is volunteers to assist with sorting/organizing donations. Our donation pile is huge (what a great problem to have)!

We are *thinking of hosting a volunteer day next Saturday 09/19/26, from 9am to 11am. If this is something you would be interested in let us know!
