Hello everyone!
and Welcome to all of our new followers.
We now have grown to 920. Let's keep growing and helping us serve Monroe County Cancer patients.
As Executive Director of Ribbons of Monroe Inc one of my most exciting and important roles is to share with all of you our challenges, our support and services and our continued progress. BIG NEWS! BIG NEWS!
What an amazing day for us yesterday!
First a short background story.
The Community Foundation of Monroe opened up Health Endowment Program grant opportunities. I submitted the application and letter of intent and we were accepted and scheduled to give a presentation. That happened yesterday. A couple of months ago an extremely important teams meeting was scheduled with the regional rep from The American Cancer Society concerning a possible sharing of information and service with ACS. Of course the ACS meeting scheduled more than a month ago now was at the same time same day as the grant opportunity meeting with Community Foundation of Monroe.
So...... I wish to publicly thank Vallerie Orr, Brittany Novak and Mellisa......
Forgive me if my spelling is incorrect, This team moved my presentation to 9:00 and allowed me to present first. That allowed me to quickly return to my office and make the 10:00 American Cancer Society Teams meeting. The grant from the Community Foundation is to help us to complete and implement a new program that my board and I have been developing since January in cooperation with Promentica Monroe, Promedica Cancer Center and The Toledo Clinic Cancer Center. It's called CommUNITY Cancer Assistance and Resource Program. We have created this in order to provide education, information, support, services and some financial resources for Cancer patients in Monroe County. Working closely with everyone our goal is to be one of the first points of contact as soon as a Cancer diagnosis occurs. At that point, and working closely with a social worker and navigator, we can start resourcing as many of the items that we can provide. We are not treatment or medical in any way. Just support and services. Hopefully during my CF presentation I was able to impress the critical importance of this program. Now that Dr. Triveti has closed her office in Monroe, we are at the threshold of a Cancer CRISIS. In my oppinion. Patients that can't find transportation to her Sylvania office. Patients who's insurance won't cover them in Ohio.
Promedica basically only has one on staff Cancer Dr. but working quickly to add addition staff.
So, Monroe County has currently over 30,000 Cancer diagnosed residents. Last year there were 600 new diagnosis.
18 - 35 is effected the most and CHILDHOOD CANCER is at an all-time high.
Ribbons of Monroe is a 501C3 nonprofit who's ONLY source of funding is Donations, Grants and fundraisers. Every dollar is used to help Monroe County Cancer patients, family members and even caregivers. We will keep you updated on our Community Foundation grant process. And we ask that you also consider supporting us in whatever way you can.
We are Stronger Together
Together, We will do great things!!
