📝 Today, several of our multilingual Coordinators and Organizers had the honor of presenting to a classroom of future teachers at the Moline campus for Western Illinois University! 🎓

Our team shared their experiences and perspectives on the power of being multilingual. They also answered questions about the importance of language and culture in education.

A special thank-you to the teacher, Carla Paciotto, and to all of the students for being welcoming and making space for such a meaningful conversation! 🌍💜💛📚

🔎 Highlights:
1.) Playing “Trena Trivia”
2.) Watching our Parent Mentors dance their way out the door!!
What a way to wrap up the week! 👏 💃 🕺

👉Our final day of Initial Training also featured:

✨ Exploring the difference between Praise and Encouragement — the power our words can have!

🎤 Special guest speaker Shantel shared her Parent Mentor success story

👋 Surprise appearance from retired coordinator, Robert

🎭 Celebrated Parent Mentor Cindy in her show “Real Women Have Curves” at Playcrafters Barn Theatre ~ this weekend is the final performances: GO CHECK IT OUT!!

🎊 DAY 4: Today’s Initial Training session was led by our coordinators Zainab and Mr. T~~ A.K.A: “Team Parent Mentor Hashira — Guardians of Family & School!” ⚔️ 🛡️

🏆 They led a fast paced getting-to-know-you activity, complete with prizes!

💫 Then our group spent time discussing our Dream Schools—> schools that are emotionally safe, restorative, empowering, and supportive of students’ educational and physical needs. 📚

WE ALSO:
✅ Worked on S.M.A.R.T. goal-setting,
✅ Reviewed the mission of PEI,
✅ Learned the history and timeline of the Parent Mentor Program. 🎯

👏 There was plenty of energy in the room, from our spontaneous Squat-O’Clock squats break to a competitive exercise challenge led by Mr. T—> our mentors mixed movement and learning today for the WIN!

👉 Move, dream, plan together: Change the world! That’s the Parent Mentor Program way!! 🌍 ❤️

👇Check out DAY 3 of our Parent Mentor Program Initial Training!

Coordinators Simbry & Fatima joined forces to become “Team Eclipse” 🌓🌑🌗 They presented a powerful question and facilitated space for EVERY voice in the room to be heard:

💭 “What was school like for you, and what do you wish it would be like for your kids?”

Our conversation touched on bullying, diversity, inclusion, belonging, and the desire to create better experiences for our children.

While today was a shorter training day, it was an important one! Our new mentors practiced the art of listening, sharing, and showing respect for different perspectives.

They were also assigned some fun homework: Imagine your DREAM school.

Meet: Team Debriana — aka the “Women in Black” 🖤💜💛

Coordinators Deborah & Mariana brought all the energy and FUN as they presented to our 2026-2027 Parent Mentors about:

📋 Signing the Parent Mentor Contract
⏰ Practicing how to complete timesheets
💻 Learning how to navigate the upcoming weekly Zoom workshops~~

🥳 And, of course- plenty of laughter, connection, & silliness along the way!

Next up tomorrow= Day 3….here we come! 👀
