On June 19, 1865, federal troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, to inform enslaved Black people that slavery had endedβ€”more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. That gap reflects a painful truth: freedom was delayed while Black labor, lives, and futures continued to be exploited.

Juneteenth holds both truth and celebration.

We honor Black history, culture, leadership, and joy. We recognize the resilience and brilliance of Black communities who have always persisted and created life in the face of systems built to deny freedom. And we hold the ongoing reality that liberation has never been simply grantedβ€”it has been demanded, protected, and carried forward across generations.

Juneteenth is also a reminder that this is not only history. Conversations around repair, investment, and reparations continue because the impacts of that stolen labor and opportunity are still felt today.

That's right, folks! πŸ³οΈβ€πŸŒˆπŸ³οΈβ€βš§οΈ Oakdale Pride got a MAJOR UPGRADE!! Oakdale Pride on Sunday, June 28th from 10AM-2PM will now be at the Gene Bianchi Community Center at 110 S 2ND Avenue in Oakdale. Keep reading to find out why, and keep scrolling to SEE THE NEW FLYER! Spread the word!! β˜€οΈ

(And don't worry- we'll keep posting it πŸ³οΈβ€πŸŒˆ)

Feeling wordy? Here's what the official press release at the end of the post says:

Due to the overwhelming support for Oakdale Pride, CalPride Stanislaus is moving Oakdale Pride from Dorada Park to the Gene Bianchi Community Center. Oakdale Pride will take place on Sunday, June 28th from 10AM-2PM at 110 S 2nd Ave in Oakdale.

This change allows for the comfort of all attendees, vendors, volunteers, performers, and staff. The Bianchi Center is an ADA accessible venue outfitted with a full kitchen, staging, air conditioning, multiple bathrooms, and parking lot. These accommodations allow for the inclusion of all community members, including individuals who are more susceptible to heat-related illness, individuals using mobility aids, and individuals with service animals.

β€œI’m overjoyed that Oakdale is having an event that will make me, my partner, and other people like me feel at home in this town,” states Greg P., an Oakdale resident and community member.

Oakdale Pride is an all-ages, family-friendly event on Sunday, June 28th from 10AM-2PM. The event’s drag show is hosted by Sasha Devaroe, an Oakdale resident and local business owner. This event will feature: line dancing, local vendors, health and wellness resources, free food, games, and more! We invite everyone in Oakdale and neighboring cities to find community at Oakdale Pride, including the 2SLGBTQIA+ community (Two Spirit, Le***an, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Q***r, Intersex, and Asexual), friends, family members, and allies.

CalPride Stanislaus is grateful for the collaboration with the City of Oakdale and the Oakdale Police Department in ensuring a successful, positive event that highlights the diverse and vibrant community of Oakdale. CalPride Stanislaus is additionally grateful for those who have supported the event by volunteering or donating.

Summer is here! So here is your reminder to stay safe and cool 😎. Extra vigilance may be necessary if you are taking medications, as many can increase the risk of sunburn and heatstroke. How, you may ask? Some medications can make it harder to feel thirsty or can slow the body's ability to sweat to keep cool, while others can make your skin prone to sunburn. So talk to your doctor, check your medications, wear your sunscreen, and drink water!
