Join Public Allies Wisconsin for Make a Difference Day on October 24, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Walker’s Point! Stop at the Public Allies office to pick up gloves, garbage bags, and trash pickers before heading out for a neighborhood clean-up! 👻🎃🧹

Enjoy pumpkin decorating, hot apple c***r and cocoa, and a candy giveaway. We’re also collecting new and gently used kids’ Halloween costumes for local families. Come for the clean-up, the fall fun, or both! Link in bio to RSVP!

For Terron Edwards, Public Allies Milwaukee Class of 2004–2005, his Ally year helped shape his leadership as he raised a young family. Today, as the founder of Fathers Making Progress (FMP), he continues to create opportunities for others to serve and lead in their own communities.

Grounded in the belief that stronger fathers build stronger families and stronger communities, Fathers Making Progress is hosting two Allies this year. That partnership builds on Terron’s 17 years of hosting Allies throughout his career. We’re so grateful for his continued partnership and commitment to investing in emerging leaders.

His advice to organizations considering hosting an Ally? “It’s an investment in the community that you serve.”

This past Friday, the 2026-2027 cohort of Public Allies Wisconsin had their first Friday Training of the year! 🥳This Friday’s topic was Asset Based Community Development (ABCD), which is one of Public Allies Core Values that grounds all of the work that we do. As Allies started exploring Asset-Based Community Development, they were introduced to Molly Snyder from OnMilwaukee.

ABCD asks us to look at communities differently, not by starting with what is missing or broken, but by recognizing the people, stories, relationships, culture, and strengths that already exist! Molly’s work as a writer and storyteller connects directly to that idea. Through her reporting, she has spent years getting to know Milwaukee, highlighting the people and places that help shape the character of this city, and helping tell stories that might otherwise go unnoticed.

Part of the Allies work this year will be learning how to listen closely, recognize community assets, build authentic relationships, and help elevate the stories and leadership already present in the communities you serve. Thank you so much Molly for joining us on Friday to share your perspective and experience.

PAWI has some very exciting news!! We have a new ED! 🥳🥳

Tony began his journey as an Ally in 2018 where he served with Girl Scouts of South East Wisconsin. He then went on to join PA-Milwaukee staff as a Program Manager, then as Director of Partnerships. From there he continued his leadership journey with Public Allies National Office where he was Manager of Alumni Engagement then Manager of Civic Action and Partnerships. He’s not new to this, he's true to this! 👏🏽

In every role Tony has had, he has served with passion, energy and a deep commitment to the Public Allies mission and the Milwaukee community. Congratulations Tony! We are excited to see where you take PAWI from here! ❤️🖤💛

At Public Allies Wisconsin, our mission is to equip local leaders with the tools to turn their passion for justice into lasting career impact. Former Ally Sam Woods is doing exactly that!

Sam is currently a co-producer for WUWM’s Lake Effect. He recently completed a powerful, three-part investigative series titled “How to Evict Your Landlord,” which dives deep into corporate landlords in Milwaukee, tenant organizing, and the legal fight for housing accountability.

Starting his Journey as an Ally with Ex fabula, an organization dedicated to amplifying and platforming underheard voices, you can see how this heart-work has given a strong foundation for Sam’s career.

Sam’s transition from an Ally apprentice to an influential journalist perfectly captures the spirit of our program. We are incredibly proud to see an alumnus using his platform to champion equity and accountability in the place we call home.

Our Allies recently got to go behind the scenes with a tour of WUWM 89.7 FM - Milwaukee’s NPR and learned more about Lake Effect ! 🎙️✨

As future community leaders, learning how to use media and storytelling as tools for social change is so important. We loved getting a firsthand look at how the station weaves the stories of southeastern Wisconsin together to inspire and connect our region.

Here are a few of our favorite takeaways from the tour:

📻 60+ Years of History: We learned that WUWM has been a staple in Milwaukee for over 60 years, broadcasting local news alongside global programming from NPR, APM, and BBC.

👥 True Community Connection: The Lake Effect team showed us how they bring local conversations to life, focusing directly on the people, places, and organizations that shape Milwaukee every day.

⚖️ Storytelling with Integrity: It was inspiring to learn about the station’s strict code of ethics and how their award-winning journalists focus on deep regional issues to empower the public to effect real change.

A massive thank you to the team at WUWM’s team for hosting our cohort and showing us how thoughtful conversations can build a shared understanding of our world! 📻❤️
