Project: Digital Learning & Employment Center
GAC hopes to transform its outdated third-floor office space for the Membership Education & Employment Unit (MEE) into Milwaukee’s first Digital Learning & Employment Center (DLEC) specifically designed to support adults living with mental illness. Modeled after national Community Technology Center best practices, the project will combine a renovated open-concept learning environment with updated technology, modern software, and hands-on instruction to better prepare members for employment and participation in today’s digital economy.
-Digital Learning & Workforce Training: The DLEC will provide equitable access to computers, updated software, digital literacy instruction, and workforce development tools designed to help members build confidence and employment readiness skills.
-Support for Adults Living with Mental Illness: Unlike traditional workforce programs, GAC’s model is specifically designed for adults living with serious mental illness, integrating employment support, education, peer connection, and community engagement in one supportive environment.
-Expanded Access to Technology: Many members face barriers including low digital literacy, gaps in work history, limited access to technology, and stigma in hiring. The project will create an accessible, welcoming space where members can develop critical digital and professional skills.
-Modernized Learning Environment: Renovating the outdated office space into an open-concept Digital Learning & Employment Center will create a more functional, collaborative, and engaging environment that supports long-term educational and employment success.
