When access to healthy foods started declining in the Metcalfe Park neighborhood, resident Grian Hollis-Maxwell took matters into her own hands.
Enter, Maxwell Farms 🌱
As a demonstration farm, Maxwell Farms not only provides access to fresh produce for her community, but also a place to learn about urban agriculture. She hopes to empower others in her community to grow their own food.
Food sovereignty is one of Groundwork MKE’s core goals; it means each community has the right to a food system that is healthy, culturally appropriate, and shaped by the people who rely on it. Grian’s work shows what that looks like in practice: neighbors growing, learning, and sharing fresh food right where they live. 🥕💛
As a part of this vision, Groundwork MKE is building a green space across from Maxwell Farms. The 33rd and Hadley Green Space will include fruit trees and raised garden beds as just one of our nature-based solutions to ecological issues in the neighborhood. Join us on Oct. 16th and 17th to volunteer at Maxwell Farms and Groundwork's new green space. Click the link in our bio to sign up! 🔗
