“I just give from my heart,” said Dolly Parton in a speech accepting the Carnegie Medal of Philanthropy in 2022.

Over the years, her heart and her generosity led to millions of young children getting their hands on new books through her Imagination Library gift-giving program. She also gave to support disaster relief, medical research, hospitals and college scholarship funds.

May we all have a philanthropic spirit like hers.

At the same time, federal funding shifts are creating new pressures on shelter providers.

The Greater Milwaukee Foundation and our donors have provided more than $18 million in basic needs funding since 2021 — and we are deepening that commitment. Read the full story in the Summer 2026 issue of Greater Together magazine.
