Today we are missing Lucille Berrien. Lucille had such a big heart for kids! She is noted for her civil rights and housing advocacy, yet we at Kids Matter honor Lucille for her dedication to improving the lives of children. "Whenever Lucille encountered a child in need, she was there with an idea and a plan for how to help. When Lucille reached out on behalf of a child, you know that child had a better path forward," says Executive Director Susan Conwell. "Lucille is an angel on our shoulder... always urging us to do more and keep on fighting for kids."

Every child leaving foster care needs a safe home and safe adults. No child should "age out" to trafficking. CASA's Fostering Futures program connects youth to safe adults long before they turn 18. Authorities say the teenager was trafficked about 40 times in May 2025. A spokesperson said inspections during the period and after found nothing concerning.

And we LOVED being part of Dr. Wilson's Pediatric Adoption, Foster Care and Kinship Care course at the Medical College. So happy to meet future doctors who are so concerned for their young patients! What a great model for helping future pediatricians learn about the systems that interact with the health care of children. So fortunate to have such innovative teaching here in MKE!
