GreatSchools Milwaukee helps parents get a great education for their children.

Welcome to GreatSchools Milwaukee

For over a decade, GreatSchools has been the premier source of parenting and PreK-12 education information in the U.S. Serving close to 40 million people each year, we reach approximately one in three American families with school-age children via our website, online tools, and local programs that help parents choose the right schools and bolster their children’s education. Based in San Francisco, GreatSchools also has local offices in Milwaukee and Washington DC. GreatSchools is supported by numerous foundations and corporations, including the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the Robertson Foundation and the Walton Family Foundation.

GreatSchools was founded in 1998 to help parents in Silicon Valley understand and choose schools for their children. Thirteen years later, we are the leading national guide to PK-12 schools and an emerging brand at the intersection of parenting and education. In 2011, we reached 41 million unique visitors, including approximately 44% of American households with school-age children.

Our Webby-award winning website, GreatSchools.org, is largely known for our comprehensive, substantive, independent school guide that combines public data, including test scores and other school data, with nearly 1 million user-generated reviews and ratings. Every year, millions of families use our school guide to make crucial decisions about where to live and where to send their children to school. Among parents who used GreatSchools.org to find a school for their children last year, 68% said the site influenced which school they chose.

GreatSchools operates local, on-the-ground programs serving parents in Milwaukee, WI, Washington, DC, and Indianapolis, IN. These programs are designed to help parents pick the best PreK-12 schools for their children by complementing our online resources with printed materials, a telephone hotline, and intensive one-on-one parent training. In addition to serving parents directly, GreatSchools works with community partners to disseminate the latest information on school choice and best practices in parenting. A recent survey of Milwaukee participants revealed that last year we reached 50% of all families choosing a school and in that group, 79% applied to at least one higher-performing school as a result of our program.
