We pride ourselves on being the home of the perfectly imperfect. Grass Roots Rescue Society (GRR) is an all-volunteer, 501(c)(3) nonprofit group founded in 2013 to rescue dogs and cats in and around Delaware. We are foster based which means our animals are in foster homes all over Delaware and parts of Maryland.

Kennedy and Jessie share a special bond that makes them even more wonderful together. Despite their age difference, these two look out for one another and enjoy the comfort of having their best friend close by. Kennedy brings his calm, easygoing personality, while Jessie adds a little extra pep, playful zoomies, and plenty of kisses. They balance each other beautifully and are happiest sharing their days, cozy naps, and time with their humans. Kennedy and Jessie are a bonded pair and must be adopted together.

Crate Trained: A crate has not been used. Kennedy sleeps on a large, comfortable dog bed.

At 14 years young, Kennedy is a sweet, loving mixed-breed gentleman who has perfected the art of enjoying the simple things in life. He may have a few stiff moments in his legs, but that doesn't stop him from enjoying a little frolic around his fenced-in yard, especially when there are birds and chickens to watch!

Kennedy loves everyone, including his kitty friend and other dogs. He especially enjoys hanging out with his doggy sister, Jessie, and is happiest when he has a furry friend nearby. He is a gentle, easygoing boy who doesn't beg for food and is perfectly content to relax and enjoy his day.

And when it's time for bed? Kennedy sleeps through the night like a champ. In fact, he enjoys his beauty sleep so much that he spends a good part of the day snoozing, too! 😴

If you're looking for a loving senior companion who just wants a cozy place to call home, a soft bed, some companionship, and a little time to watch the world go by, Kennedy may be your perfect match. 💕🐾

Jessie is an almost 11-year-old sweetheart who has plenty of love, zoomies, and kisses to share! Her favorite place to be is right next to whichever human is available. If there's a lap, a cozy spot, or someone willing to give her attention, Jessie is there! ❤️

Don't let her age fool you, though. This girl still has plenty of pep in her step and LOVES running zoomies around the fenced-in yard. When she gets especially excited, she may even chase her own tail, which is just about the cutest thing ever! 🥰

Jessie is also a thoughtful little girl who keeps an eye on her older dog sibling, Kennedy. When she's ready to settle down, she is perfectly happy hanging out in her crate or curling up on her foster brother's bed for a cozy nap.

She is polite about food and doesn't beg, but she absolutely believes kisses should be shared freely and will happily give them to anyone willing to accept them. 💋

And then there's that UNDERBITE! 😍 Jessie has the cutest little smile that makes it nearly impossible not to fall in love with her.

Jessie is a loving, playful, cuddly girl with the best of both worlds: she can keep you entertained with her silly zoomies, then snuggle right up beside you when it's time to relax. She's ready to find her forever person who will appreciate all the love and personality this sweet senior girl has to offer. 🐶💕

🥦🥓 PASSION FRUIT: FROM GARDEN GOBLIN TO PUP CUP PRINCESS! 👑🐾

The last time we updated you on our little bully mix, Passion Fruit, she was living her best life in the garden, chowing down on veggies like she owned the place. 🥬😂

Fast forward to now… and this girl has upgraded her menu! 🤣🍦🥓 Today, she’s living the spoiled life with a pup cup and BACON because apparently, garden-fresh veggies were just the appetizer! 😂

Good thing foster mama knows that the way to a bully girl’s heart is through her belly… and foster mama is VERY good at spoiling this girl! 💗

Passion Fruit’s motto? “Why eat your greens when you can have whipped cream and bacon?” 🤣🐶

This little diva may be a bully, but she’s got everyone wrapped around her paw! 🐾💕

It’s almost Halloween, and our foster dogs are planning their costumes! 🎃🕷️👻🦇🕸️💀

Name: Thicky Nikki

Costume: Hot dog

🎃 Fun Fact: Just like a hot dog comes with all the toppings, Thicky Nikki comes with all the toppings as well. Cuddles, unconditional love, goofiness and all around fun. She’s got all the fixings with none of the calories!

🐶 Breed: mixed

🎂 Age: ~2 years

⚖️ Weight: 48 lbs

👧 Kids: Big or small Nikki loves them all. Would need supervision around smaller kiddos so they don’t get accidentally knocked over if Nikki bumps into them.

🐈‍⬛ Cats: She matches their energy. If they want to play, she’s running with them. If they’re just lying around, she’s not going to bother them.

It’s almost Halloween, and our foster dogs are planning their costumes! 🎃🕷️👻🦇🕸️💀

Name: Quark-A-Moo aka Moo Moo

Costume: Olympian

🎃 Fun Fact: She is a true athlete with boundless energy. A champion soccer player, hide and seek player, master tug of war anchor, synchronized swimmer and all around good girl!

🐶 Breed: American Staffordshire Terrier/ American Pit Bull Terrier

🎂 Age: 10 months

⚖️ Weight: 42lbs

👧 Kids: 6 and up. She is still a puppy and may jump up.

🐈‍⬛ Cats: Moo hasn’t had the opportunity to meet them. But being the athlete that she is, she may want to chase them.

We get it. It seems overwhelming, expensive, or emotionally tough. But fostering saves lives—two at a time, in fact! One dog gets pulled from a shelter, and a spot opens up for another.

Age :4 years young, full of love, and ready for her happily ever after!

Weight: 50 lbs

Medical needs/Special dietary note: Rita has a sensitivity to chicken and poultry by-products. She is currently eating Diamond Salmon & Potato and doing wonderfully! Her future family will need to continue being mindful of her diet.

Housebroken: 100%! She hasn’t had a single accident in the house or her crate since being with her foster.

Crate trained: Yes! She stays comfortably crated while her foster is at work.

Good in a car: She enjoys them! Her foster safely tethers her in the back seat.

Good on a leash: Pretty good on a leash and ready to keep improving with her person.

Energy level: The PERFECT balance! Rita loves to play hard and then chill just as hard. Whether it’s time for an adventure or time to relax with her favorite humans, she’s ready for both.

Need a fenced in yard: Not required! Rita can thrive without one as long as she gets plenty of leash walks and exercise to burn off her energy.

Dog friendly: Absolutely! She immediately fit right in with her foster’s pack.
