🚒 ANOTHER FRONTLINE STORY! 🚒

We’re excited to share another Frontline Story, this time featuring the Millsboro Fire Company with Chief Dennis Swain and President Ron O’Neal!

During our visit, we discussed the department’s needs and how the $14,000 donation from The Shaffer Foundation of Delaware is helping support the men and women who volunteer their time to protect our community. ❤️

This donation would not have been possible without the generosity of our sponsors, donors, volunteers, and committee members. Every contribution, every hour volunteered, and every act of support helps us make a difference for Delaware’s first responders. Thank you for being part of this mission!

🚒 FRONTLINE STORY: Indian River Vol Fire Co 🚒

We recently sat down with Patrick Miller, President of Indian River Fire Department, and Bonnie Rogers, President of the Auxiliary, for another Frontline Story with The Shaffer Foundation of Delaware!

💡 Did you know that our volunteer fire departments are NOT fully funded by our tax dollars?

Patrick explained where their funding comes from and why direct donations and community fundraisers are so important to keeping the department running. Purchasing and maintaining fire equipment is incredibly expensive, even with a new fire station. Community support helps provide critical funding for training, equipment, and the resources our firefighters need to serve us safely.

🚨 Indian River is also looking for volunteers! Whether you’re interested in serving on the front lines or supporting the department in other ways, there are opportunities to make a difference.

❤️ We may not think about what it takes to keep our fire departments ready until we need them. That’s why public education and community support are so important!

We want to make sure every eligible Delaware student knows about this opportunity before it's too late. ❤️

🎓 $2,500 SCHOLARSHIP FOR A DELAWARE FIRST RESPONDER’S CHILD!
Are you a Delaware high school senior graduating in 2027? Is your parent a first responder? This scholarship could help you take the next step toward your future!

✅ Who can apply?
Delaware high school students graduating in 2027 who are planning to attend an accredited:

🎓 College or university
🔧 Trade school
The applicant must be the child of a Delaware first responder, including:
👨‍🚒 Firefighters
🚒 Fire Police
👮 Police officers
🚑 Paramedics
📞 Dispatchers

Trade school students are absolutely eligible! We want to recognize that there are many paths to a successful future, and continuing your education doesn't have to mean attending a four-year college.

❤️ One deserving student will receive a $2,500 scholarship to help support their educational journey and future goals.

🚒 FRONTLINE STORY: Lewes Fire Department – STATION 2 🚒

We recently visited Lewes Fire Department – Station 2 for another Frontline Story with Bryan Pepper, Chief Financial Officer, and Bernie Edmonson, Chief Marketing Officer.

With the tremendous growth in the Lewes area, the department is busier than ever, averaging 22 calls a day, with some days reaching 35 calls! Approximately 70% of their calls are billable, while 30% are not.

We also learned about their Ambulance Police Program. For just $100 per household per year, your entire household is covered. If you are transported by ambulance, they bill your insurance, accept what the insurance pays, and write off the remaining balance. That $100 a year is a pretty incredible value!

🌊 Lewes Fire Department also has three boats covering 11 miles of coastline and even uses Gators to access areas like the bike trail.

We NEVER want to need a first responder—but when we do, they are always there for us. ❤️💙
