I have always strived to be transparent with y'all.
It is with mixed emotions that I share that Amora’s Mission Inc. has officially taken the steps to close our doors as a nonprofit organization.
From the very beginning, our mission has been to provide support, resources, education, and opportunities for connection to families after receiving a Down syndrome diagnosis. Our vision has always been simple: to ensure that no family feels alone on their journey.
When Amora’s Mission began, we were supporting a handful of families. Today, our local Down syndrome community has grown to more than 75 families. Watching this community grow and seeing the relationships, friendships, and support systems that have formed is something I will always be incredibly proud of.
I truly believe our community is in good hands. Although our nonprofit status is changing, my dedication to this community is not. My work isn’t ending, it’s simply taking a different path. Over the years, some amazing parents have stepped up to organize playgroups, host events, and create more opportunities for families to connect. Seeing others continue this work gives me so much confidence in what the future holds for our community.
As I reflect on how far Amora’s Mission has come, I can’t help but feel emotional, in all the best ways. Every family we’ve connected with, every event we’ve hosted, and every relationship we’ve built has been worth it.
I also want to clarify what this change means. Closing our nonprofit simply means that Amora’s Mission will no longer operate as a registered nonprofit organization. We have always been a very small scale nonprofit financially. Rather than continually fundraising, we only sought donations when there was a specific event or need, ensuring every dollar went directly toward supporting our mission.
This change does not mean I am stepping away from serving our Down syndrome community. I will continue partnering with medical facilities and healthcare professionals, providing resources to new families, and advocating for inclusion and connection.
There are so many people who deserve my thanks. First, I want to thank Bryen Ballard and his wife, April Absher Ballard, along with everyone at Sportsmen Givin' Back, for taking a chance on me and helping Amora’s Mission in its earliest stages. Your belief in this vision helped lay the foundation for everything that followed. Becca Jaehnig for seeing something in me and believing I could do it. You helped so much with all of the stuff I didn't understand, I will forever appreciate you.
To my incredible board members, thank you. It has been an absolute privilege to serve alongside each of you. Y'all helped shape Amora’s Mission.
To every volunteer and donor who gave your time, talents, resources, and encouragement, thank you. Your generosity made our impact possible, and every family we were able to serve is a reflection of your kindness and support.
And finally, thank you to every family who trusted us to walk alongside you. It has been one of the greatest honors of my life.
I look forward to what’s next, and I’m excited to share that journey with all of you very soon.
