Last night, the board and staff of HFNJ gathered to pay tribute to a legend - our Board Chair Amy Schechner, who is finishing her six years leading HFNJ's Board. Through stories, song, poem, video, and personal tributes, consistent themes of Amy's warmth, commitment to humanism, and dedication to the Foundation and its mission resonated throughout the evening. Thank you, Amy, for giving so much of yourself to the Foundation through one of the most crucial phases in its history!

Throughout the year, we are posting our "HFNJ@30" series of articles looking at the difference The Healthcare Foundation of NJ has made over its 30 year history. The latest article looks at our 2011-2014 initiative to change how local hospitals address Hospital-Acquired Delirium. By the early 2010s, research showed that delirium was largely preventable through targeted interventions and improved models of care. HFNJ stepped in to bring the latest research to hospitals in greater Newark - and launch programs to identify and ameliorate hospital-acquired delirium that are still affecting how patients are treated today.

HFNJ staff and trustees enjoyed a fabulous bus tour of several of our grantees today - a chance to meet in person, view their programs in action, and hear from them what they are seeing in the field. Thank you to Turning Point Community Services, The North Ward Center, JVS of MetroWest and Jewish Family Service of MetroWest for hosting us and giving us an opportunity to see first-hand the difference you are making in the lives of those you serve! 👏

This weekend, Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy Association and Newark NAACP held the Newark Health Summit at Metropolitan Baptist Church. The high-energy event brought together community members with health experts to learn more about heart health. The day was part of the HFNJ-funded All Heart Collaborative, which is bringing together faith communities and community organizations across Newark to improve cardiac care and awareness. Special thanks to Dr. Chris Pernell, Dr. Tania Small and HCMA's CEO Lisa Salberg for proving a model for postive community engagement.

We were thrilled to be at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center and Children's Hospital of New Jersey today for the ribbon cutting of The Healthcare Foundation of New Jersey Emergency Services Pavilion! 🎉

Made possible in part by a $5 million grant from HFNJ—the largest in our history—the newly renovated Pavilion serves as the “front door” to the hospital for more than 100,000 patients each year seeking emergency care.

The improvements are already making a difference, with reduced wait times and fewer patients leaving without being seen—important signs of a stronger, more responsive Emergency Department.

A big thank you to Darrell Terry and the incredible team at Newark Beth Israel for hosting us and for all that you do for the community!

Wishing our neighbors throughout the greater Newark community a joyful and hopeful Easter. Happy Easter to all!
