Phyllis Heimowitz, z'l, was a woman of great wisdom and insight.

In 1998 when her daughter Michali lost her boyfriend only days before they were to announce their engagement, there was no help available for Michali and her grief.

Not a blood relative or wife, the State of Israel did not recognize her as a part of the fallen soldiers' family.

Because of Phyllis' determination and courage, the country now recognizes these yet unmarried partners and Phyllis' organization, GFIDF (Girlfriends of Fallen IDF Soldiers), continues to provide counseling and other support services to each one.

It was an honor for us to hold Phyllis as a friend and to support her work in many ways.

Rest in peace, Phyllis. You saved many, many lives.

💫 Kol Hakavod, Shana! 💫

A massive Mazal Tov to Shana Aaronson, Executive Director of מגן , for being named one of ten exceptional Jewish women leaders in the newest Elluminate Leadership Collective cohort!

From her lifesaving work supporting survivors to her quiet, behind-the-scenes dedication to protecting the most vulnerable, this recognition is so incredibly well-deserved.

Juneteenth, the day in 1865 when the last enslaved African Americans in Texas learned of their freedom, is a celebration of resilience, liberation, and the pursuit of justice.

At the Good People Fund, we are inspired by individuals who work every day to strengthen their communities and ensure that every human being is treated with dignity.

As we mark Juneteenth, may we recommit to listening, learning, and taking action on behalf of a more equitable future for all.

💫Mazal tov to the ten exceptional Jewish women leaders selected for the eighth cohort of the Elluminate Leadership Collective!

A special congratulations to Good People Fund grantee, Shana Aaronson, Executive Director of מרכז סיוע מגן לקהילות - Magen, for being named one of this remarkable group.

Magen's groundbreaking and lifesaving work is transforming the conversation around sexual assault, creating safe spaces for survivors to heal.

We're so proud to support Shana and the critical work she's doing to protect the most vulnerable in our communities.

There's a beautiful new profile of Peter Freimark in the Cleveland Jewish News and we couldn't be prouder to call him one of our founding board members.

Peter describes himself as "the busiest retired guy I know," and he means it.

For more than a decade, he and fellow congregants have made peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and handed them out to people experiencing homelessness in downtown Cleveland every Friday night. He's driven truckloads of donated goods to families after Hurricane Katrina.

And he was there at the very start of The Good People Fund.

When asked what volunteering has taught him, Peter said it showed him "there are many people who care about people they don't even know." That gives him "hope" which he calls his favorite four-letter word.

He talks about this work simply: "Kindness is available to anybody, and there's no such thing as a small act of kindness."

That's the whole thing, really.

Yesterday, Julie Fisher joined the grand opening of Emma's Torch in Silver Spring, Maryland, to celebrate founder Kerry Brodie, one of our Good People Fund grantee alums.

Emma's Torch trains refugees in culinary skills and helps them find meaningful work and a foothold in a new home. Over 800 people have come through so far, each one walking out with new skills and a little more hope than they walked in with.

Kerry has become a pillar in her community and a treasured part of our GPF family.

We are so proud of you, Kerry. Congratulations.

18 years of good! 🎉

At our 18th anniversary celebration in New Jersey, we shared this tribute video — founding board members, longtime leaders, and cherished supporters in their own words, reflecting on what it means to repair the world one small act at a time.

It's worth your listen — and please share with your community!
