Many years ago, Newton came into our rescue. He was adopted into a wonderful home. When he was adopted, we agreed as part of the contract to cover the cost of his medical care for life (this is not the place to discuss whether that was a wise decision - it is what it is). Now Newton is 12 years old. He has heart issues, and needs radiographs to visualize his heart and make sure it's not so enlarged that it's pressing against his trachea or lungs - because he has a persistent cough. We need your help to cover the cost of those diagnostics, which are anticipated to be at least $500. Please donate so we can provide Newton with the care he needs, using one of the following:

At the end of every month we scramble to meet expenses and this month is no exception. We are way short to meet bills due at the end of each month and desperately need your help.

There are so many CT rescues begging for fosters, and so many pounds in CT that are full to overflowing. FFFR hasn't been able to take any new dogs for an unbelievably long FIVE YEARS! The current situation in the animal welfare community is dire and FFFR is determined to help. We have not been able to take in any new dogs for a long time, and that is not likely to change for the foreseeable future. In addition to caring for the 8 dogs still in our rescue, we feel compelled to support the larger animal welfare community in CT in their efforts to save an increasing number of dogs. Dogs are being dumped, abandoned, neglected and abused in numbers that we have never seen before. Owners who need to surrender their dogs increasingly are hard pressed to find a facility to care for them that has the room and financial capabilities. Municipal shelters and non-profit rescue organizations are all stretched beyond the limit in their life-saving efforts.

FFFR is therefore starting a dedicated fund to help. All donations through the link in this post will go to assist municipal shelters and non-profit rescues in Connecticut with medical care and spay/neuter for the dogs in their care, as well as necessary training/rehabilitation, based upon both their need and our financial capacity - which depends wholly on donations we receive to this fund.

We will also help with privately owned dogs needing medical care or training when we have funds available to do so.

We will have an application process in place to assure that the funds are going to cover medical and spay/neuter costs, and whenever possible will be donating directly to the veterinary hospital or training facility caring for any specific dog.

Currently a generous, anonymous donor has agreed to match all donations up to $2000, to get this initiative off the ground! We can do nothing until the initiative is funded, and until we reach the $2000 mark, all your donations will be doubled! We are so grateful!

We still need funds to cover the cost for Newton - his vet bill from earlier this week was over $500 and he needs x-rays done which will be at the very least another $500 - so we need to raise at least $1000 to cover his care! ***We still need to raise a minimum of $300 more to cover the x-rays!***

Any funds received over and above the cost of Newton's care will go to cover boarding for Kona and Chip, who need to remain in boarding until we can find foster or forever homes for them!

Newton is a dog we adopted out in 2022. The adoption contract requires us to cover his medical care and boarding costs for life (this is NOT the place to discuss whether that was a wise decision - any comments regarding that will be deleted).

Newton will need to be sedated for the x-rays - he is a nervous dog and in order to get good images, sedation is needed. At his exam it was found that he has a heart murmur. The x-rays are needed to visualize his heart and make sure it's not so enlarged that it's putting pressure on his lungs or trachea and thus contributing to the cough he's been having.

We've said many times that once a dog comes to us, they are our dog for life - and this is one example of that. We will always stand by our dogs. Right now we are in desperate need of your help in order to do that.
