Restoring Hope Transplant House

Restoring Hope Transplant House Transplant procedures are complex and can involve considerable time away from home as patients await and prepare for procedures and recuperate afterward.

Restoring Hope Transplant House will provide a supportive home environment for transplant patients and their caregivers while in Madison prior to and following organ or bone marrow transplant. Some of a patient’s time in the area is spent at the hospital, but some is spent at local hotels while receiving outpatient care. The scope of medical care and the out-of-pocket costs can create additional c

hallenges during what is already a very difficult time for patients, their families and their caregivers. The House will offer patients and their caregivers a sense of community during an often long and difficult process.

This past week, we lost one of our favorite guests ever unexpectedly. They were here way back in 2013 and became very dear friends. It was devastating news and really took some joy from our holiday spirit. So incredibly grateful for so many amazing acts of kindness here at the this week to help get us back into proper holiday mode once again. Felt so good to laugh and smile again!

Wishing you all the very best this holiday season…I appreciate your loyal friendship, incredible kindness and support for the house!❤️🎄

This weekend was one of the most satisfying moments in my nearly 13 years at Restoring Hope.

About 400 days after our friend Scott’s heart transplant, he was finally all set to get back into refereeing basketball games for the first time since his transplant. Even though it was way up in Wausau, there was no way I was going to miss that game after living with them through much of their transplant journey.

Before heading up to Wausau for the game early Friday, several members of Scott’s heart transplant team at UW Health took time to sign this poster I left up on the floor earlier this week to surprise him and wish him well.

What an awesome weekend for us as a transplant family and community to not only see Scott get back to doing what he loves, but also see his amazing wife be rewarded for all of her sacrifices along the way and to see the heartfelt love and support from everyone that helped get Scott to this moment. It was a beautifully perfect weekend up in the Northwoods!❤️🏀

One of my favorite gifts ever in our almost 13 years of hosting transplant families…a beautiful new handmade sign courtesy of our talented Lions Club friend Al using cedar for the sign face and oak for the bracing with some incredible help from Kyle and Eric at Norsemen Wood Design who lasered the house and stenciling. The sign was then beautifully painted and given a natural stain to seal the wood followed up with three applications of shellac to protect from weathering at Al’s Wood Shop.

I understand Al’s wife Nancy also helped to make this all possible behind the scenes. Al and Nancy’s daughter Darcy works at UW Health with so many of our heart and lung transplant families…so this is a particularly meaningful donation for them.

So beautiful…we are so happy with this great surprise today to go along with our new roof, soffit, fascia and gutters recently. The house looks so beautiful again!❤️
