This season is now, and it is called Kiremt. When it ends, harvest begins. That happens in September and October, sometimes through December.

For families in rural Ethiopia, those two things compete directly. A bad harvest means hungry children and impossible choices.

It is one reason the School Sponsorship Program distributes food at more than 14 locations across Central and Southern Ethiopia. When food is not a worry, school is possible.

This kid plays on a school field in rural southern Ethiopia.

In a few weeks, 10,000+ people who love this game just as much as he does will gather in Minneapolis for ESFNA 2026. ⚽

And for the first time ever, Roots Ethiopia will be there with them.

We'll have a table at the 43rd Annual Ethiopian Sports Federation soccer tournament, June 27 through July 4 at TCO Stadium at Viking Lakes in Eagan.

If you're going to be there, come find us. We'll have fresh photos from our partner schools, stories from the field, and a few things to give away.

The game connects us. So does the work.

See you in Minneapolis!

For the first time, he's in a classroom where he's encouraged. Where he's safe. His spelling is exceptional. He's carefully written with precision and confidence.

This is what happens when a child gets what he's always needed: a place to thrive, month after month.

This is why The Roots exists.

Babies newly crawling make moms all over the world smile. This sweet mama is so proud of her son. Her smile says it all.

Ethiopians have carried this saying for generations. A single web breaks easily. Woven together, nothing can hold against it.

This is not a metaphor borrowed from somewhere else. It comes from the same communities where Roots Ethiopia works, and it describes exactly how change happens there; not from the outside in, but from the inside out.

This is Monday in Ethiopia. He's at the small water runoff, washing clothes before school. His blue jacket rinsed clean. Small containers lined up.

He moves with purpose because he has to get to school.

This is what daily rural life looks like for our sponsored students.

School is not a given. It's something they choose, again and again, alongside everything else. A monthly gift from The Roots means he can stay in school. Means his education isn't derailed by the weight of survival.

Every month. That's The Roots. Join this loving community: www.rootsethiopia.org/monthly

Here's your Sunday Smile! ☀️🌟

Three teachers. Three beautiful smiles.

In a few weeks when school wraps up, their students are going to miss these sweet smiles and loving greetings from these 3 teachers.

That is not a typo. One teacher. Fifty-seven students. In parts of rural central and southern Ethiopia, the number is even higher.

When supporters invest in School Improvement Projects, better classrooms and trained teachers are not a luxury. They are the difference between a room where learning can happen and one where it cannot.

School used to be a question. Now it's a matter of fact. Every day she shows up. Confident. Her notebook in hand. Her grandmother's hope alive and well.

This is Monday in Ethiopia.

A girl in school. A grandmother's hope. A family moving forward. This is what your monthly gift makes possible. Every month. That's what it means to be part of our monthly giving community, The Roots.
