Troop 5 are now home after another epic week at summer camp! And what a week it was - blazing hot temps, wild thunderstorms, the Crutch Cart, one broken wrist, 250th parade and celebrations, and 7 days of fun and friendship. Merit badges, camp wide games, swimming and boating, and an unexpected dance party were on tap for all, and finished up with the closing campfire and ceremony. Get some sleep, Scouts! ⚜️

This past week Henry from Troop 5 participated in the BSA National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT) at Camp Workcoeman - a 6-day program designed for youth to learn leadership skills that will help them succeed in Scouting and in life.

This past weekend Troop 5 and Troop 6 camped out at the Berniers outpost here in town. Many requirements were completed, many axes were thrown, and much wood was chopped. After the brief rain shower we all cooked and enjoyed the campfire complete with songs and skits and dad jokes. A few of our older Scouts completed a leadership training class and then went on a side quest with Troop 11 to raise the French flags at the Rochambeau statue dedication at Meadowview. An awesome start to the summer! ⚜️

Troop 5 is very happy to announce that Brayden is now Eagle Scout number 120. Brayden's project was building a new fence and garden in the courtyard of a life skills classroom. It was a long journey for Brayden but he's finally in the nest! 🦅 ⚜️

On Saturday, Troop 5 and Troop 6 helped to clean up the grounds at Middlebury Congregational Church in our annual clean up project. Scouts and volunteers worked really hard on a sunny day and the Church looks like spring!

This weekend the Scouts left town for their annual Spring Break Trip, this time to Gettysburg. Day 1 had a very relaxing game of full-contact wiffle ball followed by a spooktacular ghost tour and ice cream. Day 2 started with a showing of the Gettysburg Cyclorama, an amazing 360 degree oil painting. The Troop then witnessed history with nearly 7 miles of walking throughout the many battlegrounds and memorials...and rock climbing! Those Scouts also showed off their outdoor chef skills along with the Scoutmasters, so everyone was well fed. Day 3 was the trip home along with a visit to the Crystal Caves and their physics-defying mini-golf course. This really was a great trip full of fun and history. ⚜️🇺🇸

Tonight we welcomed Josh L to the nest as he becomes Eagle Scout #119 for Troop 5! His project was building raised garden boxes for the Southbury Community Garden. Congratulations to Josh and his family! 🦅 ⚜️
