Around here, we believe preparedness doesn’t have to feel scary especially for kids!

We use stories, activities, community events, and lots of learning and fun to help kids and families feel more confident and ready for whatever weather comes their way. 🌈⛈️

Today, we’re especially thankful for all the families, volunteers, partners, and friends who make this work possible.

Wildfire season is here and fire safety is something every family can practice, no matter where you live. 🏡

Here are three fire safety things to do with your kids this week:
🚪 Find two ways out. Walk through your home together and find two exits from every room. Test your alarms. Let your kids press the button and hear the sound so if it ever goes off for real, they know exactly what it means.
📍 Pick a meeting spot. Choose a safe place outside the mailbox, a neighbor's driveway where everyone goes. Walk through your home together and make sure every door and window opens easily, with nothing blocking the way.
💨 Talk about smoky skies. If the air looks hazy or smells like smoke, that's an inside play day.

It's a scorcher out there! 🥵 With dangerous heat affecting much of the country right now, we wanted to share a friendly reminder for families: extreme heat can sneak up fast, especially for kids, pets, and older loved ones.
Here are our top 5 Extreme Heat Smarts:
🏠 Stay in the AC when you can (libraries & malls work great if you don't have it at home!)
🚗 Cars heat up FAST never leave kids or pets inside, even for a minute
🛑 Dizzy, weak, or cramping? Stop, find shade, and drink water right away
💧 Don't wait until you're thirsty to hydrate
🐶 Pets get hot too! Check the pavement before walks if it's too hot for your hand, it's too hot for their paws
Stay cool out there, and check on your neighbors especially the elderly and anyone without AC.

Our hearts are with everyone in Venezuela and all the families affected. 💛

Yesterday, strong earthquakes shook Venezuela, with shaking also felt in parts of Japan and California.

Big thanks to the Miami Children’s Museum for including us in their Storm Lab weekend where we were able to share our resources with over 2,500 guests!! 🌩️📖

“We were so impressed with how thoughtfully crafted your activity books were they made a wonderful resource for our visiting families (lots of enthusiasm about them being available in Spanish too!). All the materials were flying off the table I had to restock nonstop! You guys were a perfect addition to our programming.”
