Our founder Brittany Perkins Castillo joins International Association of Emergency Managers Region 3 for "Big Disasters, Little Readers: Using Stories to Build a Culture of Preparedness."

Brittany founded Stronger than the Storm to help kids prepare for disasters with confidence instead of fear. Henry and the Hurricane, now shared in English and Spanish, is one of the ways the nonprofit brings that message to families. She'll share what she's learned about reaching kids where they are.

She's joined by fellow authors Grant E. Yost, EM Technician Carroll County, Maryland Emergency Management, creator of the Ready Carroll Activity Book and Walter English, EM Coordinator, City of Fairfax Virginia, author of Tina the Tornado Spotter.

🌎 Earthquakes AND a tropical storm in the same day?! 🌀

Texas got quite the reminder this week that Mother Nature doesn’t always stick to one thing at a time.

While Tropical Storm Edouard brought heavy rain and gusty winds along the Gulf Coast, earthquakes were also reported in South-Central Texas.

It’s a good reminder for all of us: you never really know what kind of emergency might come your way.

Wildfire season is here and fire safety is something every family can practice, no matter where you live. 🏡

Here are three fire safety things to do with your kids this week:
🚪 Find two ways out. Walk through your home together and find two exits from every room. Test your alarms. Let your kids press the button and hear the sound so if it ever goes off for real, they know exactly what it means.
📍 Pick a meeting spot. Choose a safe place outside the mailbox, a neighbor's driveway where everyone goes. Walk through your home together and make sure every door and window opens easily, with nothing blocking the way.
💨 Talk about smoky skies. If the air looks hazy or smells like smoke, that's an inside play day.
