Because many book challenges are not reported to the ALA or covered by the press, the 2024 data compiled by ALA represents only a snapshot of book censorship throughout the first eight months of the year.” -Office for Intellectual Freedom, American Library Association

2010-2019 averaged 343 reported challenges per year
2023 had 695 reported challenges (from Jan. 1 - Aug. 31)
2024 had 414 reported challenges (from Jan. 1 - Aug. 31)
