💙 Happy Big Blue Crew Day! 🌊

Every September 30 we celebrate the young people who are using their voices, creativity, and passion to protect our blue planet.

In 2021, Miami Beach Mayor Dan Gelber officially declared September 30th as Big Blue Crew Day, recognizing the impact of a community of young ocean advocates who believe in the power of art and science to inspire change.

For more than 16 years, Big Blue & You has been empowering young people to become ocean stewards, storytellers, advocates, and changemakers.

And now, the Big Blue Crew is growing with a new tiered youth leadership program for ages 16–21, giving members even more opportunities to build their skills, expand their impact, and grow as leaders.

To every current, former, and future Crew member: thank you for showing us that youth aren’t just the leaders of tomorrow. You’re the voices of today. 💙

Are you 16–21 and passionate about the ocean, creativity, advocacy, and making a difference? The Big Blue Crew is for you! 💙

We’ve reimagined the Crew as a tiered youth leadership program that grows with you. Each tier gives you new goals, opportunities, and ways to build your skills in ocean conservation, creative advocacy, and community leadership.

As you move through the tiers, you’ll have opportunities to:
🌊 Build leadership & advocacy skills
🎨 Use art, storytelling, and creativity to inspire action
🤝 Connect with other young ocean advocates

🌊 Tomorrow, we’re cleaning up Miami’s waterways for the 41st International Coastal Cleanup! 🐋

For the fourth year in a row, we’re proud to coordinate Miami-Dade’s ICC alongside and with and Clean Miami-Dade organizing more than 65 cleanup sites across the county!

While the registration for our cleanup site is full, there are other cleanup sites across Miami-Dade with opportunities to participate!

And guess what? Big Blue & You is also hosting the official after-party for site captains! 🎶 We’re celebrating the incredible people leading cleanup efforts across Miami-Dade, with entertainment provided by Love Hope Music.

🎨 Plus Big Blue & You Resident Artists Kim Rizio and Maredy Narea will be joining us for our interactive “Don’t Trash Our Treasure” art project. Volunteers can add a piece of cleaned-up trash collected during the cleanup to a collaborative sculpture, transforming marine debris into a powerful reminder of why protecting our ocean matters. 💙

🌊 10 years of Sea Youth Rise Up! 🌊

This year marked the 10th anniversary of Sea Youth Rise Up and we celebrated by bringing young ocean advocates together from across the country for a powerful day of learning, connection, and action.

For the first time, our Youth Advocacy Training moved beyond the traditional in-person gathering in Washington, D.C. and into a nationwide virtual model, creating new opportunities for young people to participate, build advocacy skills, and take action in their own communities.

Hosted by Big Blue & You's Programs Manager, Laura Johnson , this year's training was made possible through the collaboration of , , , and .
