This was my concern...if drinking oat milk make sure itโ€™s certified GF and that they are using certified gluten free oats to make it.

Oat Beverages & Celiac Disease: Why We Are a Bit Concerned:

Bottom line: If you drink oat-based beverages, please choose products you trust made using gluten-free oats.

The part per million level of a product is obviously important BUT it doesnโ€™t tell the whole story. The amount of gluten ingested depends on BOTH the ppm level AND the weight amount of product eaten. Each 1.0 ounce/28.35 gram amount of product ingested at the 20-ppm level provides about 0.57 milligrams of gluten.

Gluten Free Watchdog recently tested an oat โ€œmilkโ€ NOT labeled gluten-free. It contained a level of gluten of approximately 12 ppm. This seems fine, right? BUT have you considered how many ounces by weight you drink of various beverages?

The 8-ounce (by weight) glass of oat milk in the photo testing at a 12 ppm level of gluten contains about 2.7 milligrams of gluten.

Autoimmune thyroid diseases are more commonly found in individuals with celiac disease. While the relationship between these two conditions remains unclear, having one of these diseases puts you at a higher risk of developing the other. Alert for Restaurant French Fries:

If you have celiac disease or a gluten-related disorder and you have considered eating fries cooked in a shared fryer with wheat, please reconsider (and please no shaming on this page of those who may comment that they have done this in the past). We finally have published testing data in the peer-reviewed scientific literature. The open access article is available at https://doi.org/10.3389/fnut.2021.652039.

Thank you to colleagues Amy Keller, Trisha Lyons, Nancee Jaffe, and Luke Emerson-Mason for their hard work and perseverance.
