Naturopathic Doctors (ND or NMD) are graduates of accredited naturopathic medical schools and are eligible to practice naturopathic medicine in any state in which they meet the state licensing requirements. In all states that grant licenses to NDs, graduates are required to pass rigorous board exams in order to be licensed as general physicians.

A focus on prevention is one way naturopathic medicine seeks to reduce the burden and cost of health care. But prevention is about so much more than saving money—it’s about giving people the opportunity to take action before small concerns become bigger ones.

Prevention means paying attention to the foundations of health: nutrition, movement, sleep, stress, lifestyle, and other factors that influence how we feel and function every day. It’s about identifying risks early, understanding your unique health picture, and making sustainable changes that support long-term well-being.

Good medicine shouldn’t only ask, “How do we treat this?” It should also ask, “What can we do now to support health and help prevent problems down the road?” That proactive approach is at the heart of naturopathic medicine.
