Abortion Conversation Projects

Abortion Conversation Projects We support projects that encourage open and honest conversations about abortion that de-stigmatize those involved in an abortion experience.

We recognize the transformative power of pregnancy and all its possibilities. We envision a world in which the choice of abortion is affirmed as a moral decision without stigma. We believe that open and honest conversations, in a safe environment, about the experience of abortion will begin to create this world. Abortion Conversation Projects is committed to eliminating the stigma of abortion by c

reating and supporting new ways and opportunities to talk about abortion honestly and publicly. The real life experiences of people who choose abortion, those who support them and abortion care providers will enable all people to better understand and appreciate the complex moral decision making surrounding a pregnancy decision. We pledge open conversations that do not demonize those with differing views, or convince anyone that we are “right”. We realize that decisions about pregnancy bring up issues of life, death, s*x, parenthood, and so much more. We want to create safe spaces for women and men to consider what is best for their lives.

We’re growing our board ✊🌱

Abortion Conversation Projects has been breaking silence and reducing stigma since 1995. Today, abortion funding is at a crossroads. In this complex and shifting landscape, ACP is redefining what abortion philanthropy looks like—supporting a new era of abortion organizations, activists, and community-led models.

We’re seeking innovative leaders who can help evolve and structure ACP to meet this moment.

Board members will:
💡 Provide governance and strategic direction
💸 Guide funding priorities in a rapidly changing field
🤝 Build bridges between grassroots abortion care and philanthropy

This is not business as usual—it’s a chance to shape the future of how abortion access is resourced and sustained.

🌍 September 28 is International Safe Abortion Day.

Abortion is healthcare. Abortion is freedom. Abortion is survival.

At Abortion Conversation Projects (ACP), we stand with movements everywhere fighting to make abortion conversations happen and exchanges that have the potential to end abortion stigma.

We know safe abortion saves lives. We know abortion stories change culture. And we know this fight is global.

💊 Today we honor the seekers, the doulas, the networks, and the projects who refuse silence and demand safety in all abortion journeys.

For 25 years, Abortion Conversation Projects has been lighting the way for open, honest abortion conversations.

We envision a world where abortion is affirmed as a moral decision without stigma — where people who choose abortion, those who support them, and abortion care providers are seen, heard, and respected. Since 2000, ACP has created spaces where the complexity of pregnancy decisions can be spoken aloud with honesty and compassion.

This work carries forward the legacy of leaders like Peg Johnston, who dedicated her life to ensuring that abortion experiences were met with dignity, creativity, and courage. Peg reminded us that abortion conversations are not only about stigma, but also about art, justice, and the power of connection.

We’re still here, igniting abortion conversations — and we invite you to join us.

🌹 What Would You Risk for Abortion Rights? 🌹

Charlotte Taft has been shaping abortion care for over 50 years. For many of us in this movement, she has been a mentor, a guide, and a living example of what it means to claim authority in one’s reproductive life—without permission.

We are honored to invite you to Without Permission: a feminist book club & rabble-rouser circle, benefitting Abortion Conversation Projects and the Peg Johnston Memorial Fund.

📖 Together we will read Without Permission, the first novel in the Jane Smith Trilogy by Charlotte Taft, and gather in conversation about courage, authority, and the future of abortion rights.

Dates: Sundays — Oct 12 & 26, Nov 9 & 23, Dec 7, 2025
Time: 1:00–2:00 PM EST
Led by: Charlotte Taft, pioneer in abortion care for 50+ years
Cost: Free, with a suggested donation to ACP

Peg Johnston devoted her life to ensuring that abortion care was seeker-centered, deeply feminist, and grounded in compassion. This circle is one way we continue her legacy—supporting spaces where abortion seekers, providers, and allies can think, feel, and act together.

✨ Join us in honoring Charlotte’s leadership and Peg’s memory by reading, reflecting, and rising up.

We are sad to say that one of the founders and guiding spirit of Abortion Conversation Projects, Peg Johnston, died earlier this year. We are still reeling from her loss. ACP was Peg's passion, and she also matched all funds raised from Giving Tuesday to end of year every year. This year's fundraising will be a bittersweet challenge for all of us. In the coming weeks. look forward to hearing more from us about the new Grant Partners of 2023!
