Congrats to the City of Miami’s Grove Park neighborhood on achieving Federal Historic District status and the unveiling of State of Florida historic markers evidencing the significance of this lovely neighborhood! DHT worked hand in hand with residents, Megan McLaughlin of Plusurbia, City of Miami’s officials, State of Florida Historical Resources staff and the Department of Interior on this wonderful initiative. Many thanks to City of Miami Mayor Eileen Higgins, City of Miami Commissioner Gabela and County Commissioner Lopez and their staff for celebrating with us! Thanks to Grove Park resident Theo Long for her dedication (and champagne). Thanks also to City of Miami Parks for installing the markers! 🌿 Earth Day is a reminder that preservation isn’t just about buildings, it’s about the spaces that sustain us.

In Miami-Dade, our tree canopy does more than beautify our neighborhoods. It cools our streets, improves air quality, reduces flooding, and creates healthier, more livable communities.

Yet not all neighborhoods have equal access to shade and green space.

Protecting and expanding our tree canopy is essential to building a more resilient and equitable Miami, one where every resident benefits from the power of nature.

This Earth Day, let’s commit to preserving the green spaces that connect us to our history, our environment, and each other.

🌳 Support preservation. Support our canopy. Support a better Miami.

A wonderful evening celebrating preservation in Miami ✨

Last Thursday, Dade Heritage Trust welcomed supporters, partners, and friends for our Annual Meeting & Preservation Awards held at the beautiful Coco Plum Woman’s Club. Together, we celebrated the projects and people helping to protect Miami-Dade’s history—and shape its future.

From the introduction of our new Board of Directors to honoring this year’s incredible award recipients, the night was a powerful reminder that preservation is about community, connection, and impact.

A special thank you to everyone who joined us and continues to support this important work—including initiatives like our Naturally Occurring Affordable Housing (NOAH) program, which shows how preservation can help address real community needs.
