Great work!

Majority Leader State Senator Regina Birdsell (R-Hampstead) released the following statement reaffirming the Senate’s commitment to NH families and its promise to improve mental health access for young children:

“I’m deeply disappointed that SB 498 failed, but unfortunately, I cannot say I’m surprised. Let me be clear: I will stand up to Anthem — or any powerful insurance company — every single time when the mental health and wellbeing of our children are at stake.

The Senate will continue working with families, providers, and stakeholders to find ways to expand mental health services and improve access to care for our most vulnerable.”

Background: On Thursday, the Senate unanimously voted to add the provisions of SB 498 to HB 1323, which keeps the issue alive. The bill now heads back to the House, which must decide whether to Concur, Non-Concur, or Request a Committee of Conference.

Thank you Governor Kelly Ayotte for supporting this important need for access to mental health care

Children in a mental health crisis deserve care — not insurance denials. Thank you to Kelly Ayotte for pushing to hold insurers accountable and protect critical mental health coverage for kids.

Families and providers should not have to fight carriers while children wait for treatment. SB 498 is an important step toward ensuring vulnerable children get the care they need when they need it most.

Great Meeting Today!

A solid turnout for our first meeting of the season in the Big Beautiful Barn. Unfortunately, the New England weather made it the Big Beautiful Chilly Barn, but all enjoyed being back in the friendly environs of the Miller Manor. And Max enjoyed the extra attention, too!

As a quick recap for those who missed it…

- We’re going to close out the Post Office box and save the money. Update your address books.

- Calling all duffers! The inimitable Mark Vincent will honcho the ARTC Golf Team for the September Golf Tournament sponsored by the Bedford Republicans. If we get a foursome to participate, we get a piece of the action. If interested, please contact Mark.

- Donni Hodgkins will again supervise the construction of the Independence Day Float, which promises to The Best Independence Day Float Ever! If you would like to help, please contact Donni.

- County Attorney Steve Coughlin gave an update on putting bad guys in jail. He continues to be successful in this endeavor, which is good for us, but not so good for the bad guys.

- Our State Senator Tim McGough updated us on the latest from the Senate side up in Concord. We are in the bill “cross-over” phase, where bills from the House cross to the Senate and vice versa. At times things get pretty dynamic and it seems like the bills are thrown in a giant bureaucratic Mixmaster. But Tim is on top of things, which is good for us.

- Our guest speaker was State Representative Jim Kofalt of Wilton, who is the House Speaker Pro Tempore. He gave us a very complete update on the House side of things up in Concord. Jim has a wealth of experience as a town- and state-level elected official. He’s a strong supporter of New Hampshire families, good governance, and maintaining the New Hampshire Advantage. We were very pleased to host him and hope to see more of him in the future.

Next meeting will be June 6, 10:00 AM at the Big Beautiful Barn. See you then!
