National Volunteer Week, from April 19–25, is dedicated to the over 565,000 American Diabetes Association® volunteers whose contributions make what we do possible.

Every cheer, every poster hung, every policy advocated for, every dollar raised, every insight from experts, and every program shaped matters when it comes to improving the lives of those we serve.

Because our volunteers are always there for us and the diabetes community, we want to take this week to celebrate them! Join us for this special week of appreciation or learn more about volunteering at diabetes.org/Volunteer.

Why Wednesday ❤️ (on a Friday)

For more than 12 years, Michelle Harmon has been a dedicated volunteer with the ADA and Tour de Cure. Her “why” comes from the people she cares about most, family, friends, and coworkers who have needed support, and from the reality she sees every day as new patients are diagnosed and begin their own journey with diabetes.

For Michelle, showing up is not just something she does. It is something she will always do. As long as there is a need, she will be there supporting the mission and the community that depends on it.

Meet Michelle.

Some partners help power the ride before it even begins. ❤️
From the moment riders arrive, Whiting-Turner helps set the tone for a safe and well-supported event experience. Their presence is felt across the course, from a welcoming message at the start to hands-on support along the route.

We are especially grateful for their volunteers who have helped with route marking and flagging, working to keep riders safe as they move through the course. Their partnership also extends behind the scenes, helping coordinate and secure signage alongside Allan Myers, including electronic directional signs that guide everyone to the event site and parking areas.

It is the kind of behind-the-scenes commitment that makes an event like Tour de Cure possible, even if most participants may not see it in action.

We are truly grateful to the entire Whiting-Turner team for helping make safety and organization a priority every step (or mile) of the way.
