Ode to Lottie - The ONES and the MANY

Some stories arrive like thunder. Others come hopping across the parking lot at full speed, refusing to surrender. That was Lottie.

She was found running with a crushed rear foot, zipping along on three good legs, dangling the fourth, as if grit alone could outrun pain. Painful? Absolutely. Defeating? Not for her.

In rescue, there are the ONES and the MANY.

The Ones are the people who notice what others pass by.
The one who sees the dog in need.
The one who says “I’ll foster”.
The one who starts the fundraiser.
The one surgeon extraordinaire whose skill turns crisis into possibility.

Then there are the Many.
The village.
The donors.
The transporters.
The encouragers.
The people who share the post, send the prayer, offer the crate, cover the shift, cheer from the sidelines, and quietly keep the wheels turning.

The ONES strike the match.
The MANY keep the fire lit.

Because of both Lottie has a new chance at normal. Today she has embraced the tri-pod world and her future is wide open.

And when her healing journey is complete, Lottie will be available for adoption, ready to bring that brave spirit into a home of her own.

This is rescue. Not one hero, but a chorus of them.

Thank you to every ONE. Thank you to the MANY.

We had a terrific opportunity to join Lauren Yoakum and her group of amazingly smart, talented and well connected friends this week and introduce them to our organization and mission. Kimberly Douglas is one of our new friends and she very generously set up a link at Park Lane Jewelry and 50% of the proceeds will go back to All 4s. We had such a great time. Norbert Mede of the Memphis Wine Society brought a lovely affordable selection of wine from Trader Joe's for us to sample and enjoy. We always appreciate the chance to meet new people who aren't familiar with what we do and shine a light on animal welfare needs here in our community! NOM NOM NOM!!!!! So blessed to have this amazing donation of food from Brian and Stacy! They really must be psychic because they always show up as we are sweating bullets wondering how we are going to stock the pantry! We are SO thankful for their support and helping us fill pet bowls all over town.

WHAT. A. DAY!!!!!! Yesterday was our first of the year free vaccine clinic, partnering with Shelby County Health Department and Memphis Animal Services and as usual the turnout was amazing, the volunteers showed up and kicked tail (figuratively of course), and lots of pets went home protected from deadly viruses and microchipped in case they get lost. The line was LONG (see video in comments) but we kept it moving and got everybody through as quickly as possible. The preliminary numbers were 245 vaccines given (cats and dogs) and 35 signed up for free spay/neuter! We could not be more proud of those numbers. Every volunteer knew their task and stayed on top of it but I'm going to shout out the techs and animal control officers, those interacting with the pets directly. Not all of the pets who come through are well socialized and they aren't thrilled about being handled by strangers in a strange outdoor setting and weren't afraid to let it be known. That did not deter our team and they got creative and worked together and got even the most unwilling patient what they needed with as little stress as possible. Dr Moffatt had her mobile clinic on site to take the kitties in so they could be contained safely and nobody could make a break for it. Ive said it before and I'll say it always, we have THE BEST team in rescue! The Health Department volunteers were on top of their game with paperwork and logistics. This is one of our favorite events of the year. If you or somebody you know has trouble keeping their pets vaccinations up to date, this is the weekend to get it done. Dogs and cats are welcome, limit of 5 pets per vehicle. Free distemper/parvo and rabies vaccines and microchips. The line is long, so bring water for yourself and your pets.

We are sharing this sweet boy who is losing the only family he’s known for 6 years. His momma has stage 4 cancer and her family is having to move her in for Hospice care. Little Daddy will have to go to the shelter tomorrow but a friend of the rescue is hoping we find someone to step up for him first. He is good with other dogs, just wants to be a couch buddy. This is already very sad for him, the shelter environment is not going to help. If you can help him please contact us. West Memphis/Memphis, TN
