The Daily Memphian published a feature on Advance graduate LaQuita Hughes! 📰📰

LaQuita shared how our financial literacy program helped her purchase a home:

"No matter what she did, her home loan applications were always rejected.

"I just kept running into so many hurdles,” she said. “I just wasn’t educated about it enough.”

At least, she wasn’t until she started going to the Faith and Finance course offered by Advance Memphis, the South Memphis nonprofit that offers job training and financial literacy classes."

LaQuita Hughes has wrestled with tragedy, grief, and depression. But this year, she bought a house she loved, after years of trying to become a homeowner.

On Tuesday, our Work Life class wrote scripts for handling difficult workplace scenarios and then acted them out. Emotional regulation at work is one of the key skills taught in the class, and it was fun watching our neighbors use their creativity!

On Friday, we had great food and much fun during our volunteer appreciation luncheon! Each year, ~200 volunteers lend their time and expertise to our staff and form meaningful relationships with our neighbors. We are so grateful!

We had a beautiful, joyous Work Life graduation ceremony last Friday. This was a funny, hard-working class of graduates, and we can't wait to see what the Lord does in their lives next.

"It's been a struggle," one grad said. "But I know God won't give up on me. And I'm not going to give up."

Our next class starts May 18!
