The Sea Turtle Conservancy at the Archie Carr Refuge operates out of the Barrier Island Center, an educational facility with an interactive exhibit hall, theatre, dune-to-lagoon walking trail & gift shop. The Archie Carr National Wildlife Refuge (named after STC's founder Dr. Archie Carr) is a 20.5-mile section of shoreline between Melbourne Beach and Wabasso, along Florida’s east central coast. T

he stretch of beach within the Refuge boundary is home to the most important sea turtle nesting habitat in the United States. More loggerheads nest within the Carr Refuge than anywhere else in the Western Hemisphere. The Barrier Island Center (BIC) is a focal point for the Archie Carr National Wildlife Refuge and the associated barrier island by providing exhibit space, a presentation hall, a small research library and ongoing educational programs that promote stewardship of the area’s fragile natural resources. Through a partnership with the Brevard County Environmentally Endangered Lands Program (EELS), the Sea Turtle Conservancy manages and conducts the educational programs offered at the BIC. Sea Turtle Walks are offered during nesting season (reservations required). The facility and its exhibits are FREE and open to the public.

Sea Turtle Conservancy at the Archie Carr Refuge's Sea Turtle TECH STEM Mentorship Program youth and teens from Club Esteem Inc. were inspired by releasing Pua sponsored by Disney Cruise Line and Hei Hei sponsored by the Disney Conservation Fund! This was an amazing capstone to a summer of Sea Turtle STEM exploration. Pua is currently topping the leader board and Hei Hei is in third place! Are you ready for Tour de Turtles? Sea Turtle Conservancy at the Archie Carr Refuge prepared our Sea Turtle TECH STEM Mentorship program students for our Tour de Turtles turtle release events by teaching them about what scientists use satellites for, asking them to design their own satellite tracker and taking them on a geocaching scavenger hunt.
