A lot of surfers love to fish and a lot of fishermen love to surf.

Sebastian Inlet is a shared space for everyone to enjoy both surfing and fishing together.

Any solution we propose to restore First Peak has to benefit the local ecology and the fishing community or else we won’t support it.

We’re getting tired of surfers telling us we need to remove part of the fishing deck to restore the wave.

It’s not going to happen.

A lot of surfers, including OG inlet locals, believe we need to build a pumphouse at Sebastian Inlet to restore First Peak.

We have a huge question about building a pumphouse.

Pumphouses pump sand from near the beach. That’s where the wave ends. Surfers catch waves at the peak, which is offshore. If you ever watched surfing, surfers “paddle out” to get away from the beach to catch waves and then ride waves to the beach.

So how does dredging sand at the end of the wave help the peak at the start of the wave?

Please help us understand, we’re so confused.

Everyone wants to talk about problems, but no one wants to talk about solutions.

No cutting holes in reefs, no underwater chainsaws, no moving rocks with cranes, no heavy equipment, no pipes, no pumps, no problem.

To fix First Peak all we need to do is grow more worm reef to close the gaps between the pilings and voilà, the reflecting wall is restored and the wedge is back.
