From Commander Miller,
It is difficult to put into words what the past two years have meant to me.
At our 11th District organizational meeting this past Sunday, I was humbled and deeply honored to receive this Certificate of Appreciation. Since the text on the plaque is difficult to read in a photograph, I wanted to share its contents so everyone could read it.
"In recognition of your outstanding leadership and dedicated service as 11th District Commander during the 2024-2025 and 2025-2026 membership years. Through your unwavering commitment to membership retention and recruitment, the 11th District has achieved record-breaking success within the Department of Illinois. Under your leadership, the 11th District has strengthened communication, enhanced officer training, mentored future leaders, and fostered greater collaboration throughout the 11th District American Legion Family.
As Commander of McHenry Post 491, your accomplishments have been equally impressive. Under your guidance, post membership grew from 168 to 331 members, a remarkable achievement and a testament to your leadership and dedication. Your selfless service and steadfast commitment to your fellow veterans have brought great credit upon yourself, McHenry Post 491, the 11th District, and The American Legion Department of Illinois.
This certificate of appreciation is presented to Chad Miller for his dedication and friendship which will long be remembered by us all as we continue Serving God and Country."
While I am incredibly proud of this recognition, I know with complete certainty that none of these accomplishments were mine alone. Every milestone we achieved was the result of an outstanding team of leaders who believed in working together, communicating openly, and putting veterans and our members first.
To our incoming 11th District Commander, Pat McLeod, congratulations. I have every confidence that the 11th District is in excellent hands, and I look forward to supporting you and your leadership team however I can.
To every District Officer, County Commander, Post Commander, Adjutant, committee chairman, American Legion Rider, Auxiliary member, Sons of the American Legion member, and volunteer who gave their time and talents over the past two membership years—thank you. Your dedication is what made our success possible. It has truly been the honor of a lifetime to serve as your 11th District Commander for the 2024–2026 membership years.
I am profoundly grateful for the friendships we have built, the challenges we overcame together, and the opportunity to serve alongside some of the finest men and women I have ever known.
As one chapter closes, another begins. I look forward to continuing to serve The American Legion in my new capacities as 11th District Adjutant, and to doing everything I can to help the 11th District continue its tradition of excellence.
Thank you for placing your trust in me, and thanks to Roy Smith, Department Commander 2025-2026, Wayne Madson SAL Commander 2025-2026, Jill Storm Layton ALA President 2025-2026 and Joshua Thielen, Department Adjutant for ALL of your support and guidance.
Serving God and Country.
